Monolith Liquid Platinum

Well, with 165 orders in one day, maybe only 5-10 units are sold each month.
I would also have pressed the stop button.
How much does something like this cost to produce?
Maybe 350$ plus freight 50$ per unit?
At the advertised price, it would make a not good profit.

Some would have kept it or given it away like you did.
Most would have put it on Ebay out of greed, so you have a point and your intentions would be honourable.

Surely you are disappointed and many now hate Monoprice for it.
But computers also make mistakes, as do people or the people behind the computers.

Another point you raised is the terse cold system email.
I agree, I sometimes get upset about such emails myself.
At least an apology email to all customers would have been appropriate.

We live in a crazy world where everything is computerised and the person behind it is almost a computer or is pushed by the company to function like one.
Old hands like us just canā€™t get used to that and are naturally pissed off.
All in all, everything today is so generate generate and generate.
I think the staff would do it to apologise and maybe issue a voucher for the next time, but the company policy is different.
Look at it this way, even the arrogant ones in management will be punished for their actions at some point.

My email had an apology in it. Iā€™m ok with that. Different companies have different cultures, often depending on where they are from. Sometimes you get a bargain and sometimes it really is too good to be true. Itā€™s a shame that US based companies neglect their European resellers. Both Monoprice and Schiit starve theirs of stock so they can never really sell anything. Itā€™s an odd approach given the size of the EU economy and the increasingly global nature of sales.

We are still very spoilt for choice though :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, perhaps.
There is one thing that is really bad in Europe.
The countries have stopped thinking for themselves and have adapted to the EU.
Thatā€™s why a lot of things are very complicated here and certain market niches suffer from being abandoned because of some stupid regulations that nobody cares about.
Because they are forbidden.

When I look at your Us market and see the pure tube headphone amplifiers, Germany is a fart compared to it.
They are too digitally minded and childish for that and freak out immediately if something doesnā€™t work.

And only because of these regulations have many analogue things been forgotten or banned.
People forget the analogue part that makes up so much.

I think Monoprice thought of bringing it to the Eu.
Only if you as a manufacturer hear that you have to enclose a tube amplifier so that it can be imported, what do you do if the reason is banal like that a child can burn itself on the tubes, the device catches fire and can be prevented by the enclosure, etc.? :see_no_evil::joy::tipping_hand_man:t3::see_no_evil::joy::man_facepalming:

Look at the Liquid Platinum, the tubes are so deep inside, what is going to happen?

Why do you think the Macintosh Mha 200 got an enclosure?
So that it could enter the Eu nothing else

Respectfully, I am not sure that is entirely the case, Deleeh. There plenty of tube amps available in the EU without tube guards. Very often it is down to how the companies think they need to interpret the rules.

There are lots of niche and boutique manufacturers that are much less well known because the international market skews US due to their cultural dominance of the internet too.

Eh, itā€™s complex and this is maybe not the best place to pick it apart :slightly_smiling_face:

Snagged one of these hot little twin 6922 potatoes and simply loving the sound thus far. Single ended at the momentā€¦ Wow. That was quick! I already have an inbox full of messages saying balanced is better and I havenā€™t even finished typing. Jokes aside, Iā€™m working towards getting balanced hook ups so please standby.

Iā€™m already curious about tube swapping to Genalex Gold Lions to see if I can bottle some of the Liquid Crimson magic without actually doing so. I have zero complaints with the stock tubes at the moment but if anyone has any opinions on this swap Iā€™d love to hear it.

I resent that! Lol, Iā€™ll be serious too tho, I sometimes feel like Iā€™m one of the only people that is totally OK with the single ended output on the LP. It sounds totally great to my ears! No as spacious or dynamic etc as the balanced but besides that it sound amazing to me! Maybe itā€™s because I have a different perspectiveā€¦ As someome who used the ifi diabloā€™s single ended outputā€¦ THAT WAS HELL! lol it was ridiculously bad, sounded so dirty almost as if it was a sewer in audio version. But the LP single ended is actually super good ime!

For the record Iā€™m loving the SE experience, yes, it does feel like something is being held back but what Iā€™m getting is still buttering me up.

Current DAC is a Topping E30ā€¦ it gets the job done. For HP Iā€™ve been having a bit of a struggle with as I keep rotating from Sundara to HD6xx and eventually landed on DC Open X as the best pairing for me.

After a technical failure that was beyond my control I finally have my plat back (or A platā€¦ warranty replacement) Rather than firing in the stock tubes i decided to get wild with it and ordered some JAN GE 5670 tubes and adapters to try something a little different.

Boy-Howdy that changed thingsā€¦ for the better! Thus far Iā€™ve noticed it has changed the sound to a more punchy W sound which Iā€™m really enjoying. It does come off as a little more separated is each range with bass being a little more lush, detailed, with some rumble. Treble does sound a little dry (cleaner?) and boarding on sibilant but that hasnā€™t been an issue. Spatially, everything sounds a little stepped back giving a better sense of the space in some recordings. Although the vocals do seem pulled more toward the center but only by a smidge. Biggest complaint has to be the decay of sound which i think has to do with burn in and i hope gets better with time. Music will trail off in a wave like motion, almost like rippling into the middle distance before falling off. Weird, different but kinda distractingā€¦ time will hopefully tell.

Highly recommend them, theyā€™re cheap little tubes that imbue the sound with punch, panache, and play.

Never been real big on EH tubes. I feel even in their price range JJ usually has a good tube or there is a NOS philips, ge, etc for a little more. Usually a JAN like you have.

I love that trail off you find in tubes. Like the music gets sent off into space.
