Monolith Liquid Platinum

I think they’re a bargain at the $400 give or take price point they can be had for used. They can drive just about anything but do have their quirks. I haven’t checked in a long while but their $700 retail (new) price point, it’s not worthwhile IMO.

Are you specifically looking at the amp for the tube aspect or want something with power or what is it about the LP that has you looking at it? I thoroughly enjoyed it when I had mine but there are better amps, but at that lower end pricing, it’s hard to do much better than a clean LP.

I have a liquid spark and i really enjoy the sound and from what i gleaned the MLP is the “bigger brother” only with tubes and balanced options. With that feature set it peaked my interest.

That’s good you mention the balanced option. One of the quirks (or features) of the LP is that it’s way better when you use the balanced output, so SE headphone listening is at a disadvantage. So make sure you’ve got cans you can feed a balanced signal into.

I never heard the Spark so I can’t comment. But like I said I thoroughly enjoyed it while I had it. The Burson Amps, the Soloist specifically is an example of a next step up from the LP that has a similar signature IMO.

There are/were many used sub $400. I wouldnt be surprised if you find a little used unit fir $350.

Balanced is the way to go with this, even the designer has indicated this.

@TechnicolourDunk What were you looking to pair with this?

At the moment, an E30 but I’m feverishly looking to replace it as I’m tired of the sound. A few recommendations i was thinking of grabbing due to some holiday sales include the ifi Zen Dac and the Allo Revolution dac. Honestly, i can taste a Birfrost in my future…

Yeah but what headphones will this be used with?

Ah gotcha. Aeons, Sundaras, 6xx and 880 600ohm.

it should be good with the Aeon and Sundara. And acceptable with the 6xx and 880.

Something full tube like the BHC is a gem with the 6xx and 880 600ohm. But tubes can play tricks with planars. The hybrid MLP plays well with planars.

Is there a specific direction you wanted to go or just more of the liquid spark?

also, unless you need something now, you might want to consider saving for the Bifrost 2. They go on sale used here and there between $500-600. But you need to be quick, most dont last a day.

This is not saying the ifi or allo are bad by any means, just for some it is more beneficial to consider used prices and get a full scope of what everything is.

I don’t know how you beat the LP @ ~$400 new.

At $500 it’s still tough to beat it.

Bifrost 2 + Liquid Platinum - I really enjoyed that match up.
Headphones I was using at the time LCD-2pf, HexV2, Lawton mod’d Denon AH-D5000, Elegia

What the fuck how, I’m tempted just cause…

I know right lol?

Somehow monoprice is able to make their own store look like a scam at times, but I’m pretty sure they will deliver on what the system decides to adjust to. They really need to implement some sort of limit to prevent the system from doing this, there’s 0 way anything this low is not a larger loss to them. Or keep it, since I think there are also 0 things that remotely compete with it at this price point lol

Wow… how can you not?

EDIT: $175 w/tax. Let see if they deliver on it.

Good grief. Even with import costs that is an insanely good price. I am going to be very poor this January…

At this price I’m going to end up spending more on tubes!

Anyone have some tubes for sale?
