Japanese Music / 日本 音楽

Tonight I’m listening to a classic. I recently got my hands on a SACD rip of Ayumi Hamasaki’s 6th studio album, My Story.

This album was always one of my favorites of hers, it has distinct rock influences that none of her prior work up to this point leaned into quite as prominently.

Also if I recall correctly this album marked the first time she had full control of her output unbidden by her label which was a sore point for her in prior albums. I think she referred to this album as being autobiographical in the lyrical content and it shows while listening.

Basically the goat of Japanese female solo artists, she is lovely.

I’ve been watching this live concert back a few times over the last few days. Really cool concept for a concert and of course Yorushika rocks. I really love this live and they sound great, just as good as the studio versions imo.

Debut album from 1999 and still one of her best, the quality is staggering for a debut release. Catching up with this old favorite of mine with the SACD version on my LPGT and Fourte, and it literally has never sounded so good before :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Exploring more of my Library lately and finding what sounds great with the bokeh c, and one thing I have discovered is that these cans thrive on acoustic pieces and especially acoustic guitar. The other thing it does really well is female vocals, so naturally a combination of the two sounds freaking amazing.

Sakura Fujiwara, a singer songwriter that I have taken notice of in the past few years for her incredibly solid acoustic blended pop albums. This album, Full Bloom is her debut indie album and while I have listened to this album once or twice before, I don’t ever recall it sounding as good as it does here with the BC. Her early sound carries a rawness and energy that while not as mature as her recent output, sounds 10/10 amazing with this headphone choice. It is also just a rock solid album, especially for a debut.

Cheers!

This was amazing :star_struck: omg such an iconic and nostalgic song and what a performance… That man is 55yo and he sounds and looks fucking fantastic, like it’s 1998 all over again.

This gonna make me do a t.m.revolution and abingdon boys school discography listen

I have to post the original MV for comparison.

Girls Dead Monster starring LiSA Tour 2010 Final -Keep The Angel Beats!- 繁日内镶字幕
I may have posted this before (my apologies if so), but I love coming back to this concert video every once in a while. Crow Song will always bring back nostalgia for me (even though I prefer the marina version, LiSA’s stage presence is just something else here)

Edit: Seems to be restricted on other sites. You’ll have to open it in youtube sorry. Added title since it won’t show it.

Legendary performance, still gets me in the nostalgic feels every time!

Have you watched any of her live performances from the last few years? She has honed her live technique to a razor’s edge. She has come such a long way since her angel beats days.

It just so happens that there is a live collection that was posted on her official YT just last month that showcases some of her most iconic performances.

In particular I recommend checking out Shirushi at the 39:06 mark, it is probably one of my favorite performances she has ever done. Honestly watch the whole video if you have the time, it’s worth it.

Really showcases how versatile she is as a vocalist, she is one of the most talented singers alive today imo.

Her live studio recording of it still has a special place in my heart. Just a simple piano and vocals yet packed with so much emotion. And as the headphones system got better so did the experience

Went to a Yoshiki performance today live at walt Disney concert hall… Beautiful, emotional, breathtaking, and a simply stunning performance! He had special guests Josh Groban and Jonathan Davis. I remember listening to Groban when I was young, but it was my first time hearing him live… Damn, what a heavenly voice he has. And Yoshiki… That dude can drum, sheesh! So many great songs, but if I had to pick a favorite number it’s his performance of red swan from AoT anime. He had Beverly (girl in black dress) sing this one and it was just oh so wonderful

Dude that is awesome! It’s crazy that Yoshiki is still around doing events like this, he is a certified legend in the Japanese rock scene. I still remember getting into x-japan back in the day and all of the VK obsessions that followed lol
