I was surprised as well. It’s also aluminum and not resin, which I’d guess is a more expensive material.
Definitely interested to hear these.

They need a better resin than the tortoise shell. Even a black and grey type blend would be much better.
I realy like the tortise shell tbh. More so than my rad 0 even
I think what they did on the lcd-5 is actually really good looking
After a few years they might even have a creators edition for cheaper.
I havent seen the 5 in person but seeing it on eyeglasses and other accessories it is not for me.
Unfortunately, it seems to be more for studio applications than for audiophiles.
I would rather have seen a solid revision of the famous lcd 2 non fazor.
If I have seen it correctly and still have it in my head, the N50 driver is also used in the Lcd 2.
So not necessarily something new, a pretty look, a slightly different sound tuning, but something new on the market.
Strangely enough, I’m seeing a lot of used Lcd 5s at the moment.
It also seems that the listener has not really been satisfied, when they can be found on the market in so many different ways.
Supposedly all 50 Zähl are sold, of the 15 allotted to the US 8 are sold.
Apparently it’s the bees knees.
I’m surprised you can still order in the US
Here’s the link for the Zähl.
It kinda looks pretty cool.
Yeah, I really like the look. The features seem pretty cool too.
Given the hype from the headphones.com guys, so am I.
I think there are a couple things that are causing this. First, they had all 15 units on hold for good customers until just this Monday (I had one on hold for me but decided to pass). Second, there is no real discount to be had on these at all (they seem to be treating it as a loss leader and are only covering their total costs as of right now) meaning what you see is realy realy as close to bottom as you can go. Third, honestly, their shoppers aren’t use to paying this much for an amp. Im sure they will all go within the next month but I think an 8k amp is kind of a big ask for a customer base who primarily purchases <1k stuff.
Ultimately, I am quite excited to see what comes of this. Ill be able to borrow one after canjam socal I believe so will be interesting to see if I am sad I passed or if I am fine missing out. I don’t think it will happen by then, but it would be ideal if I could snag a 394II by then to compare against as MK is still my favorite presentation/signature I’ve ever heard out of a solid-state amp (just a shame that I cant justify the new 406 replacement tbh)
I found this video from last year of Zähl talking about the amp. A lot of features (makes sense since they’re a studio brand).

Yes, just the overly positive buzz at headphones.com really put me off it.
Might live up to the hype, but it’s the same site where everyone loved the Phonitor as the “greatest SS amp eva” so I’m skeptical.
I’m still on the fence about getting one, especially now that I remember how finicky tubes can be.
I heard it can be an improvement over my Enleum.
This came to my mind as well.
You did it! You.
