Looks very interesting, will be curious to see how it stacks up. Like most dcs, I bet it will really improve with that clock

I expected dCS pricing, but this is a significant step toward high end source for Abyss. $29k for the system makes Sagra + Formula S + Powerman almost seem budget.

They did also sell the Bartok and praise it, so it’s not too surprising to me. And honestly it’s not an unreasonable source cost for their headphones either lol, so I think it makes sense, a fair amount of their customers were already running chains at or over that cost

The question is where does it stack against other known quantities. There’s a hell of an advantage being able to design three components in concert. I just don’t know how much volume there would be in relying on selling them as a trio given the pricing.

They’d probably have to rely on being able to sell them as individual components to make better numbers. I would think.

Didn’t remember that they sold the Bartok…and I’m sure you’re right that plenty of Abyss owners are running chains at that level anyway. Should be interesting to see what kind of feedback it gets once more users get ears on it.

This is true, which makes me more interested to see what feedback it gets, for more than just Abyss stuff.

It is triggering my OCD that Final does not have their HP sitting on the stand correctly…

Still sexy AF tho

As an AIO I actually like the Bartok, I just don’t know if it’s what I’d consider good value, same with other dcs dacs, imo I put them in a similar place to chord stuff where I like them but not my preference and there is a bit of a brand tax there

Do the chord and dcs dacs have similar sound signatures?

If you get too close the Audiophile field sucks you into the space time dimension where everyone dresses like Sgt. Pepper.

I guess the dCS Lina amplifier only puts out 2W at 30 ohms, which is pretty low for use with the Susvara (which really wants around 8 watts at 50 ohms). Will be interested to hear impressions of people who try the sus off of the amp in the coming months tho.

I don’t know, I’ve heard it sound pretty fantastic without that much power, so I wouldn’t write it off yet

Yes. I find focusing on stated power only realy works much in the lower end. Like AIC has less stated power than A90 but I think we all know which one of those runs sus better. IMO its best to view power like SINAD. Like it can tell you if something is just out of question (like it doent matter how they measured it, the stated 155mW of power of the 428 just stands 0 chance of driving sus fully and how something with like 50dB of SINAD probabaly has something rattling around inside of it), but anything more than a watt or two in the higher end could really go either way. Great example of this is Forge vs GSX-mini for sus. Both same stated power. GSX-mini on sus is bright, under powered, and etchy meanwhile forge has serious grunt and slam and no hints of under driving them at all (this is obviously ignoring the technical proficiency of both amps)

That Lina stack looks pretty sweet. I’m really curious about the ā€œBufferedā€ inputs on the amp. The Abyss owner (I forget his name) said it was very tube-like.
