Ahh the classic hd6## comparison titles.

I would hope given the price differential it’s a better headphone! The perennial HD6xx slayer…

You’re missing out, if you also happen to have one of the golden pairing amps for it.

Heard one a long while ago, could not tell you how they sounded if you asked me.

I’ve got a Little Dot mk. II. They’re supposed to synergise with the 600, right?

One of the reasons I haven’t pursued that headphone is that I have a HD560s. I know it’s not tuned like a a 600, but when I was getting into headphones, the 560s had just come out and everyone was saying how the imaging was way better, the bass extension was bass, etc. than the 600 line, so I didn’t bother. The 560s tubes well, hence why I have always had some variety of Little Dot around.

Another reason why I haven’t gone after a 600 + tube amp for my chain is that , from what I can tell, a lot of audiophiles who love it, favour vocal centric music. Again, those same people tend to favour warmth and weight, intimacy, etc.. So, I understand that a 600 on an amp with great synergy is highly regarded, but I have a perception that the people that crow about it have different tastes in music to me and prioritise a different presentation to me.

For context, I like the stage to be out in front, good layering/depth, sharp, clean images with an overall neutral tonality. I am the least picky about vocal timbre…

Good to remember that we have different priorities, tastes.

There are IMO a lot of people who won’t ā€œgetā€ the HD6??.

It’s a bit of a one trick pony, it has exceptionally natural midrange, though I feel that gets overstated by some, a good tube amp can bolster the Bass and clean up the high end a bit, and it really is an exceptional headphone experience given the price point.

Some people are in the ā€œbestest midrange everā€ camp, and will prefer it over pretty much everything running it on amps worth 10x as much as the HD600, I’m not in that camp.

Stage isn’t as 3 blob at some make it out to be, and I think it works well across a pretty broad set of genres.

Like a lot of things written about a lot of equipment, online it’s strengths tend to be overstated as do it’s weaknesses.

Having said that I think people who are expecting a more consumer centric Bass forward tunings, are going to be disappointed, and unless they are willing to learn to like what it is, they aren’t going to get along with it.

When I mentioned the right amp I pretty much meant the Bottlehead Crack w/Speedball option. There are some other good pairings but the BHCSB is just a magical combo that IMO extracts the most of the synergy. That with a BF2 DAC.

I also thing that it’s overstated how great the HD6?? can be like Poly mentioned but the other aspect that needs to follow that statement is ā€œfor the priceā€. For a headphone that can easily be found for around $250 dollars for an earlier good example. It’s just one of the amp/hp combos that one could just stop the search (if that’s your sound) and never find any other pairing that they’ll enjoy more. Better ones yes, but not more enjoyable.

BTW I was an oddball apparently liking mine with a perf suede Dekoni pads. I still own both the BHCSP and the HD600.

I must admit, I love the idea of finding endgame early on and just stopping and being satisfied.

Anyone know anything about this headphone? There may have been an earlier post on this, but I don’t recall.

Genesis One headphone, live on Kickstarter now.

Never heard of this thing and saw something about it, started reading into it, really liked what I was hearing about it with the power specs and controls. Started wanting one, found out the preorders are sold out, wanted one more. Then I found out they’re $5000. I don’t think I portable that hard.
