Industry News, Rumors, & New Releases šŸ¤

I tried their 1st closed back and open back model and remember enjoying it. Iā€™m glad to see they finally release a new open back model call the Quasar.

Has anyone ever heard or seen this headphone amplifier from Yamaha?

Yes and it was pretty bad. It distorted even with Yamahaā€™s own headphone.

Ouch, thatā€™s not a good sign at all

Looks like they scrapped their G3 line for an X3 line insteadā€¦

Taking some notes from hifirose, I kinda like it.

The biggest thing I take from that story is that it has qobuz connect.
Have been waiting for that some time.

Just realized this wasnā€™t discussed here, but thereā€™s now a Pacific 3!

Itā€™s 6000 Euros more expensive than the Poseidon too. 23k vs 29k.

That was the case with Pacific 2 as well, maybe 27K canā€™t remember

@Polygonhell is whatā€™s referenced here about upgrading the Pacific 1 to the Pacific 2 (engine 11) what you did to yours?

In lamp Poland it was only a 1000 euro difference between them.

We were both wrong. Pacific 2 balanced with VC was 30K as seen in their Q4 price list so this is in fact cheaper now. The 1K difference was for single ended and no volume control so not apples to apples comparison

I did mine very early on, but yes, it basically deleted the Network connection, in my case replaced the Amanero USB with the JL Labs USB and upgraded to Engine 11P, they also extend the warranty. With shipping it was about $5K US including shipping.
What was most impressive was how painless it was DHL picked it up at my door and dropped it off a bit over a week later.

It makes sense, I think the DHTā€™s are just desirable to a portion of their users, despite the difficulty obtaining them.
I know for a while after the Pac 2 came out Lukas was using one in his personal system because he liked the DHTā€™s.
As I understand it the Pac 3, itā€™s basically a Pac 2 with all the options, with the new case.

Not sure. The site claims this (bold is my addition):
ā€œIn January 2025 we redesigned the Pacific mechanics: created new subframe floor with all CNC provisions for mounting, added new chassis similar to that of Poseidon, improved the transformers, the inputs and outputs, made new OLED display with new firmware, new user interface - instead of a rotary knob we have three buttons.ā€

Yeah even just putting it in a new case will probably make it sound different.
One of the annoying discoveries while building my own amps has been how much impact physical layout has.

And the new case is just better looking than the old one.

Still nice to still have DHT options, though Iā€™m not sure I wouldnā€™t just go for a Horizon if I upgraded, and to be honest Iā€™ve also become am a big fan of the TotalDACā€™s at this point and Iā€™d want to hear both the Horizon and sublime if I were looking to upgrade.

Speaking of upgrades. Merason will upgrade your mk1 to a mk2 for $3kusd thru a dealer which includes the shipping back and forth to Switzerland. The unit is completely gutted and replaced with MKII boards and power supplyā€¦they said about 2 weeks totalā€¦Iā€™m considering it. That would put me at a $5.8k for a mk2, which msrp is $8.5kā€¦just need to know if the mk2 can compete with dacs in the price point lol Lampizator, SW1X, Mojo, etc

Lampi Atlantic TRP: $7,325
SW1X DAC II SPX+USB: $7,685
Mojo Mystique X SE: $8,499
and othersā€¦

Thats one of the things I really liked about merason even while looking at the frerot, cause above merason 1 is over budget, but I didnt realize I didnt have enough space for it

Maybe its signature id actually like more than I think coming from a fully upgraded exogal (even the cables).

For me the upgrade from mk1 to mk2 was worth it.
But I havent heard any of the other dacs you want to compare it with.

Having said that, I am currently upgrading from the merason to a SW1X dac.
