Holo Audio「きつね」thread, Cyan / Spring / May / Serene / Bliss / Red

Doesn’t the logitec software do Amazon HD? Cause if so, that can run on a pi

So my main thought is to chain it with my Totaldac reclocker probabaly doing USB in and out of it, but the chance to try the aes output of it into the Totaldac is interesting as well.

Red available via Kitsune now.

I’m slowing my roll on this. I’m wanting to see what reports come in - same as the Bliss. When you are happy with what you have already it is hard to just buy to be buying, for me anyway. There is just not enough new functionality or an upgrade to tip me over the edge at the moment.

My concern is that the ddc function would be “less” than like an su6/su2, and the streamer would not hold up against something like an ultraRendu. But ofc I could totally be wrong lol

I think @Draaly has heard that golden sound has one and has measured it. So far it sounds like it’s just as good as the May in terms of noise/jitter. I think it measures better than the Singxer as well.

Once I get it in and have some time I’ll definitely give my opinion. Hopefully it’s a solid improvement over my pc atm. Will be building a nuc to go along with it so hopefully that adds to the improvements as well.

What are you using atm?

tbh there’s no way it’s not an improvement over your pc but that’s a low bar to pass lol

Well I’ll mess around. I’ll use the nuc directly into the dac. And then use the red as a comparison vs both the pc and nuc.

I’m willing to send my Matrix X-SPDIF 2 for subjective testing and comparison.

Just about anything is an improvement over a PC.

Exactly! at least speaking for myself. I want more than just USB as input choice and the *Rendus’s sound fantastic at their price-point and have a decent flexible eco-system supporting them.

No idea what to do.
I have the Matrix Audio Element H card installed in the PC and that has helped, even more with the Su 2.
You probably won’t get it any better than that.
On the other hand, it’s not bad to have to switch on a PC if you could operate it with various apps.
Roon might be more interesting again, provided it works.
Otherwise, I have a wait-and-see attitude as far as the Red is concerned.
Just like the Dac, I’m still leaning towards the Spring 3 Kte or Amber 3/4.
Really hard to make a decision.

Fwiw, if you go spring 3 kte you don’t need to worry about streamers much. Their USB in is fucking incredible tbh

I have a roon ROCK (NUC) and ultraRendu feeding a Spring3KTE via USB and not currently using a DDC in that segment because KTE Titanus USB … on the other setup I’m using an Allo DigiOne via coax spdif into the Yggy and then a PC endpoint via USB into an Xspdif-2 via AES into the same Yggy.

I would like to have a DDC that has coaxial/BNC spdif and AES inputs along with USB that I could use with the Yggy so that I could continue to use the Allo, or optionally some other bridge/player into the Yggy and still use USB from the PC into the DDC and then AES or other available input into Yggy - The Yggy setup is the only one that I have an input option from a PC working so DDC is needed more there at the moment and needs to be flexible. When I saw the RED I thought perhaps I could upgrade from the Allo and get a DDC all in one housing but more I consider it I think for myself that I’d rather keep’m separated as it is looking that the RED is either booted into being a USB DDC (not unlike the matrix unit), or booted into being a Network streamer - it is not both, it’s either or, and for my use case it is too limiting.

Check out the Pi2 Design Mercury streamer, it will do both and can be used as a server as well.

I have - it is intriguing indeed. :+1:

I would still go off a PC with the Spring 3. If you need a DDC or not is a different question. The difference is noticeable with both imo.

I went for the red due to the I2s option. It seems that’s the best for the Wavelight.

And I get anything is better than PC. It’s why I made these last two purchases. Before I had the May kte which had a solid usb.

just make sure you set up the i2s connection correctly (if that’s a possibility) so you don’t end up with L-R opposite. I had to do that with the SU-6 and Wavedream.
