General IEM/In Ear Disussion & Help Thread

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about that one, since it’s musicteck. Andrew is pretty much the most trustworthy dealer around, the guy is the goat lol

Well after waiting forever, it’s finally my turn in the aufiotiers visionears loaner tour. I have a VE EXT and Phonix on the way to me, should get them by the weekend.

It will be weird dealing with eartips again as all I’ve used for the past 3 months is my custom infinity MK2 lol

just listened to this, I don’t always agree with his findings in other reviews of his I heard but some of what he says about balancing the so many different drivers types and the bone conducting being limited in frequency range do sound like reasonable concerns. Not sure what to take from it.

I also read favorable reviews about the 64 Audio U12t and Thieaudio Monarch MK2, those three seems to be on my short list.

Quick side question - for public transportation like a subway or bus, would these seal well enough or should I look for more active noise canceling headphones? I might have a 45 minute commute soon.

Anyone had a chance to try out any of the new Jomo IEMs? I’m quite interested to pick up a pair of S100 myself.

I wish I could get my Trinity Brass reshelled into customs but I hadn’t realised that they were never offered in CIEM variants

Disclaimer : I’ve only heard the Mest MK I not the II. But when it comes to going deep in the bass, If that’s a concern I wouldn’t worry. I thought the quantity was kind of just OK but that was on the MK I which is bigger, leaving more fit issues for me.

Personally most IEMs have a level of noise canceling that I don’t even consider wether it will be good for that or not lol. But the mest did have more average passive noise canceling abilities. Probably just as good as my noise canceling Sony earbuds.

Jomo will reshell to custom, I think. Pretty sure that was an option when I’d sent my Quatre in to give the custom treatment

Yeah I saw that they can, but I wasn’t sure how they’d do it with the Trinity models since I thought the brass/stainless steel nozzles were part of their tuning, and as much as I’m sure the SS is nice, the Brass would be my preferred tuning. I guess I’ll need to email them to see whether or not they can.

That’s true…didn’t really think about the nozzle material potentially being the actual difference maker in tuning.

I’ll need to try and send them an email when I have the money together to get a reshell done if possible, how much roughly was the Quatre reshell? (after doing the moulds)

It’d have been a good bit cheaper if they didn’t have to replace a couple drivers and repair the A.C.U. (venting/tuning module), but it was around $600.

ahh fair enough, hopefully shouldn’t be as much

Labor Day sale back to $999

It’s been brought to my attention lol. I don’t have money

Argh! These would be great to try!

Yeah this sale might push towards it but I really wanted to try a few others as well (U6t, U12t and Monarch MK2).

Did anybody that attended the SoCal canjam happen to hear these? I’m not an “IEM” person but interested in getting a set around the 500 - 700 price point that is both warm and thick/meaty mids. I was told this one is not tuned like the Helios. Just not sure if this will be competitive with other options in the same range. Was also thinking the Kina Lava or maybe going used instead.

Hello,

I have a question.
We are currently working on mowing with a scythe at work.
These are powerful 2-stroke engines that also produce quite a lot of noise.

I have a double ear protector on, but noise still gets through and at the end of the day I sometimes have a thick head from it.

I thought I could wear IEM’s under the hearing protection and listen to music.
Also that my ear hears something other than määhhhh all day.

The smartphone will probably be the source.
I still have the Nuprime Dac lying around unused.
As well as an Ifi Hip Dac 2 which is more likely to be used.

I have looked for Iem’s up to 100$ and read the reviews a bit.
Tin hifi 2 is supposed to be a bit flat sounding.
Moondrop Starfield cool and a bit peaky in the highs.
Klipsch T5 didn’t make a bad impression but unfortunately Bluetooth capable which would also work.
But I wouldn’t be able to use my dacs.

Actually, I’m not really the Iem type, because I sweat with them and at some point my ear canal gets inflamed.
But I have also read that there are very good tips with foam in the meantime.
Ideally, I would also like to have a headband, but unfortunately I don’t know if you can buy it separately or not.
So that you can give them a fixed point around the ear.

In terms of sound, I would like something warm, neutral and expansive and not too high in the treble.
Can you find something for 100$ or do you have to spend more?

The other alternative I was thinking about is the Koss Khpi.
So I’m still thinking about it calmly, I don’t have to have something tomorrow.

Any suggestions?

that’s a good idea, you will want to get a Iem that fits and seals well for better comfort and noise isolation.

Foam tips would probably be a good idea for this usecase, not only do they isolate better but also are more comfortable, and can be less irritable over long periods of time compared to silicone tips.

not really sure what you mean about this? IEMs (in ear monitors) don’t have headbands… for stability most iems insert upside down and the cable wraps around the top of your ear and down the backside, this “locks” the iem in place through gravity by the weight of the cable.

I think this is doable in this range but tbh I am not familiar with current offerings for budget sets. Hopefully someone else can give you some recommendations

I have the starfield and I thought they were good for the price. But I wasn’t a fan of its shouty midrange (from memory). I didn’t really pay attention to source though so ymmv. I also noticed they didn’t isolate outside noise that well (did not use foam tips).

The other budget set I have are the blon bl-03. I actually liked it more than the starfield (from memory) despite the step down in technicalities. I would classify it as warmer than neutral. Potential problems are the cable (it’s crap) and the fit. But for the money, I’m not complaining.

I can recommend the Final E1000. Warmer leaning iems, that perform pretty well for 30 euros. I’ve had them and I think they are really solid at this price point.

The fit is a bit strange but they did isolate pretty well, since they are so small they go somewhat deep in the ear and I found them to be fairly comfortable, did not try them with foam tips though.
