General IEM/In Ear Disussion & Help Thread

Yeah, I was going to recommend the Final E3000, which are pretty cheap and Final makes great eartips.

Hello,
Thanks for all the recommendations.

My wife got the Samsung ear buds 2 with her new mobile phone contract.
I listened to them with the Ipad without the Dac.
And my god for me they were very bad.

The low end wasn’t necessarily bad, the bass energy was okay in the middle and the highs were still partially good, but the worst thing I found was that the details were extremely obscured and the resolution was also very poor.

The Soundware box we have in the kitchen sounded much livelier in direct comparison.
I guess it needs a dac if you can pair it with one.

The next thing out of the Samsung S10 + were these Akg Inears in the box that I tried with the Hip 2 Dac.
It was much better but quite bright.
And it kept distorting in the highs after 10 minutes I also got a headache.

I spent a little time at the weekend with the Iems.
So what I personally like and also went through the reviews well were:

Trn Kirin superior, Dunu Talos makes a strong impression and
7HZ Timeless 14.2mm Planar as well.
The first one would be a bit over the planned budget, which would still be okay.
The other 2 would also be significantly over budget, but still acceptable if you don’t want to be disappointed.

They are all Planar powered and I have no idea how they would sound.
And I would have to do more research.
Now I’m totally undecided which ones to buy and I’ve seen most of them on Hifigo, which probably makes it more difficult to return them if they don’t fit.

Oh yeah I didn’t mean a headband that was translated wrong.

Small edit:

After a lot of back and forth, these are the ones.

I hope it won’t be a pure case.
Since I’m not really a Z Review fan.
Still, we heard quite a lot of positive things about the Letshouer S12 before it was corrected with Z’s housecleaning, it should indeed be better.

Does any other IEM offer engraving besides the Blessing 2?

Not really engraving but most customs can do custom artworks and designs for the faceplate

Random thought but I was thinking it would be pretty cool if Logitech came out with an updated version of their ue900. I have no idea if they were good or not at the time but I remember really wanting a pair in the very early days of the hobby. It was one of the few hi end iems I knew of at the time… ok, that’s it. Lol

Hello,
the Letshuoer S12 is currently available on Drop for $120 instead of $180.
If you want to get by without engraving or are looking for something else…

The ordered Z12 via Hifigo arrived today.let’s see how it does.
So far much better than those Samsung Earbuds 2 I listened to the other day.
I would like to give them a little burn in and listen further before I judge them.

I am satisfied with the Hip Dac 2 at the moment.

Hello,

I have a question for you.

My Letshuoer Z12 arrived yesterday.
You can forget about the foam tips that come with it.
So miserable, I have to say.
They are not round but spherical and also warp.
So I ordered the In Airs 2 as a replacement and hopefully they are better.
I would also be open to foam tips.

As for the silicone or hybrid tips, I don’t really know whether I should stick with the ones that come with the kit or try others.

I found some but they are outside Europe again unfortunately.
Not everything but some.
I would like to get some information from you about what worked for you and what did not.

I have to mention that I am more susceptible to the silicones or hybrid tips.
For example, I noticed that the size M was too big on my left ear and after 20 minutes it was already pressing and starting to hurt.
So I took size S on the left and size M on the right and it worked.
Otherwise I had no problems.

I also found that the tips included in the delivery, the hybrid tips, did not sound bad compared to the foam tips.
I found it much better, a bit more open and transparent than the foam.
The sound was really strange, the upper end was a bit restrained and not so pronounced.
But I blame that on the build quality because I think there are certainly better foam tips.

Otherwise, I think the Z12 is not bad at all for now and not bad as an entry-level IEM.
It is certainly not an Auteur or Lcd 2C but very acceptable.
What surprised me was that it worked without problems on the Feliks Euforia and sounded amazing.
I also tried it on the hybrid amplifier and was very satisfied.
A good corner better than on Singxer Sda 2.

What are the current iems to consider around the 100 buck mark? I feel so far behind on what’s going on in that range, and have a friend looking for a new set who also refuses to take anything over 100 bucks (I get they’re trying to be nice since I’ll probably buy it for them, but it makes it a lot harder for me lol). Can’t really think of anything off the top of my head to be honest

Never heard them myself, but maybe the Final a3000/4000 or one of the cheaper campfire audio iems they released a while back. Might be my own bias but I’d avoid chifi

So I really like the a4000 (got it after @j.fopps got the 3000 and liked it lol), and cheaper campfire I’d also want to check out as well, but this person is very adamant on their 100 and under with not much flexibility, otherwise I totally would have gone that direction

If your bud swears alliance Xi Jinping they might be able to get their socia credit score up and knock off a couple of percentages off some chifi. Maybe score a FH3 for $80.

I sold the Moondrop Aria and kept the Final E3000 for whatever that’s worth, but the Moondrop Aria/Starfield have a lot nicer build. Haven’t tried much else that’s that low in price point.

I just got a Truthears Hexa in. Just a random buy to see what the current state of chifi iems are like. Can give you a quick impression when I give it a listen.

I too am quite far behind, but another set I can recomend are the Reecho & Peacock Spring 1. I have been using them as my daily driver for commuting and for the price I am quite pleased with them.

They have a more neutral and “monitor” sound, nice speed and also fairly comfortable, the only thing is that they are a bit light in the lower frequencies, not much rumble. Cost should also be about 100 dollars if I recall correctly.

I actually really like that one, and I totally forgot it was in that price range (always thought it was 200 ish). Was able to snag one on sale, appreciate it @Alb

If you can get a campfire comet, they are a fun listen, and feel very premium. Much darker tuning then you would expect from a single BA.

I forgot about these. I’ve been looking for a cheaper IEM to keep in my bag and use with dongle DACs, something that I don’t have to worry about loosing, breaking, … Just ordered the a4000, looking forward to trying it out :sunglasses:

Just picked up the monarh MK2 IEM for my wife, and Im hoping I can ask for some feedback from other MK2 owners (or people who understand this) about their fit. Specifically, the shape/malleability of the heatshrink that covers the very end of the IEM cable, conforming it to your ear shape. (not sure what to call this ear shaped piece)

Her cable’s ear shaped end is soft and supple, and bends easily. My own, connected to my MiM Dark Magician IEM, is firm and almost like an ear-shaped shell. Both fit me very well, but hers is falling out.

Does anyone have any specific experience with that heatshrink section of the end of the IEM cable, and trying variations of this design, such as more stiff or more malleable? Do you need to swap the whole cable?

I think I might be able to work with her to secure her fit without swapping cables, but I am trying to learn more about that particular fit.

Regarding the truthear hexa. Grabbed this mostlt just to see the current state of chifi. I prefer all other forms of listening over IEMs, but like to keep some iems around for their convenience factor and noise isolation, hence why I typically stay on the budget side with iems.

I saw the graph of these and they caught my attention because it appeared to be a much more neutral set than the typical chifi v shape or Harman-like signature. Gave them a good listen today while cleaning the house, off a earstudio es100, and foam tips. Fit is very good, didn’t have to adjust them in my ear once while moving about cleaning. Pretty small overall shell. Sound wise, I’d call these very well balanced, never harsh, mid focused with a very little bit of bass boost, solid extension in the bass, treble is polite but not dark, mids are well placed, not too far back or forward. Decent imaging, can’t comment on stage yet, feel like that one thing I need to listen more critically to comment on.

Overall pretty impressed with these for the price. I do feel like these are better overall than others I’ve heard in the price range some years ago. Nothing amazing, but a very solid performer for $80 imo.
