FiR iem thread, VxV / M3 / M4 / M5 / NE4 / KR5 / XE6

These came in today. A bit sooner than planed but when the price is right… I had time to just test them if they work but seems like interesting sound signiture. This will be probably new daily driver for my wife but I am very curious how they compare to my cairvoyance. Will share some impressions once I have more time with them.

Admin note: Initial title included only the VxV, updated to include other models

Will be very interested in hearing what you think of these, they seem very nice

Great every day carry iems. For the price it’s my favorite in that range, really good value.

I have been listening to them for more than hour now and it felt like 15 minutes. To be honest I finally might get that every day carry thing. I am randomly throwing at them different genres I have in library from jazz to trance to vocals and all souds at least good. No thoughts about switching because this sounds horrible. Pretty impressed. Dealer had the deal so I got them for a bit more than 800 eur. Msrp is 1090 here so I am happy I picked those. Also my wife loves them so far so that’s a nice bonus.

yes it is a very strong all rounder. that combined with it’s tough build and comfortable fit due to the presure relief tech and atom module makes it a excellent daily driver. I’ve often thought about buying one for when i go out and want a beater pair that also sounds really good.

Did it smoke clair out of the water?

I am not there yet. But tbh I dont think it will be the case. Clair is very good set for the price and there are certain genres where I prefer them but also some areas are better on fir. So far I found fir sound stage pretty impressive for an IEM. This is just early impressions and my wife took fir with dap from me cause its “her time” now so it will take few more sessions for me to come to better conclusion.

Both are staying for sure and I will probably start looking for something a bit higher in the tier list since this one gets confiscated for sure.

Nice I bought the wife’s beater pair :joy:

Jokes aside I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be a week or two before I get them and am able to lay down some impressions. Iems dongle and cable need to arrive.

I mean, it’s a pretty attractive pair and doesn’t scream “look at me” either.

Great… I got the “girlfriend” IEMs  j/k.

Actually, I get why this is chosen for the SO of an audiophile. They aren’t fiddly, they don’t destroy bad recordings. They just sound good, very enjoyable. Easy to drive. And are an obvious upgrade to what most people are used to listening to.

Anyone can put these on and say “wow”, no matter what genre they like.

I’m really glad I got to hear the M5 today as well, just to build a little perspective on what “better” sound like. These are good, but oh man, the M5 is BETTER in every category I can think of (other than price).

I’ll add that Bogdan, the FIR CEO was a great guy. Super chill. Seemed really happy to have me visit the shop and demo their range. We talked for more than 30 minutes about the range of devices and design choices. If anyone is in the Portland / Vancouver area I fully recommend emailing them and visiting. Probably helps to buy something while you are there

After another day of listening, the standout feature continues to be their versatility. Everything sounds extremely pleasing / enjoyable on these. Today I listened to a bunch of garbage 90’s and 00’s rock: Offspring, 311, Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prodigy, Tool, … everything sounded excellent… I use “excellent” in the loosest possible sense, this music is what it is. But for 311 to not be piercing is really doing something.

But this does start to expose some weakness - the energy at high frequencies is a little bit blunted, maybe coming through slightly on the darker side for some tracks. Not excessively so. But for ripping guitar, there’s some life / energy missing. But given that I tend to have treble sensitivity in my hearing, this is mabye more of a “feature”. lol

The VxV almost feel like driving in old Cadillac: you see a pothole coming in the road but just ignore it because the Cadi will “float” right over it. I listen to tracks that have made me reach for the volume knob in the past, and the VxV just “floats” right over it, sounding good without ringing my ear. But that said, somehow the detail isn’t lost. Just not jammed down my ear.

I actually have very similar experience with VxV. I can randomly switch tracks and genres and it plays all of them nicely. It doesn’t hit the hardest nor does it has the most energy but with that said I can enjoy the music for a long period without something bothering me or feeling fatigued. I guess that’s what good every day carry should do.

Hey, did these come in for you yet? Curious to hear impressions from another new owner.

I’m about 3 weeks into owning mine and I still really enjoy them. They keep coming through on everything I listen to as detailed without being bright. And they reward better amps/DACs but don’t sound “bad” on anything. Really a unique device in my limited experience.

I was hoping everything would arrive before my vacation but that didn’t happen unfortunately. I’ll get time with them once I’m back home.

Enjoying reading your impressions though.

Fir all intents and purposes I have no experience with iems. Had some time with these finally balanced out of an L&P W2 and I like them. Warm and laid back and forgiving. I was expecting a much more narrow presentation but this isn’t bad at all. Not a ton of depth or space in the stage but there is some and after adjusting I’m enjoying what I’m being given. Dynamics and detail are pretty good too. 1k seems about right for what I’m hearing.

Fit is great for me. Nice cable. No complaints really. Nothing exceptional either but given what I’ve read above that’s what I was expecting. I guess the versatility and possibly the width is exceptional but I have no reference for that.

So far so good.

I’ve been trying to put my finger on the sound of these IEMs since I got them, there’s something very familiar about their sound that I’ve not been able to put into words. I was listening to the new Nirvana Nevermind remaster today, and it finally hit me, these IEMs are tuned like a live rock concert! They are intentionally tuned to be played loud without becoming fatiguing. The high frequency detail (ie cymbals) is there, but pushed back in the mix to not overwhelm you. Mids are pushed a little bit forward to help clarify vocals. And the low end is full and impactful. With the VxV (like going to a show) I can listen to them and not realize how loud they are until I take them off and discover that I just took a few more years off my hearing.

Ahhhh… finally… this has been bugging me since I got them! I knew I had heard this sound signature before but I couldn’t express it.

Anyone else have a similar opinion of the VxV sound? Or is this just me and my hearing loss talking today?

Don’t know if that was intentional or a typo, but in the context of this topic it’s very funny.

Any more impressions on these now that it’s been 18 days?
