FiR iem thread, VxV / M3 / M4 / M5 / NE4 / KR5 / XE6

Surprisingly not. As something I have in my work bag it just hasn’t been used lately due to the nature of work atm. No down time on the road. So fir the time being I have nothing to add.

Dumb question: if there are two BA drivers right inside the nossle, in the path of the sound from the bass DD and mids BA, why isn’t their sound muffled or otherwise negatively impacted?

My guess is the configuration isn’t quite as simple as they show, otherwise it would be muffled like you are saying. It could also have to do with the frequency range the DD handles is low enough (ie longer wavelength) to not be as impacted by the BA position.

I have received the FIR VxV fairly recently and now have had some brief time with them. Wanted to share the impressions here on the forum.

So far, I’ve been most impressed by the black background and the way VxV handles treble. Initially I felt it was held back. But with Bifrost and RNHP, it seems to be very realistic in presentation of treble. Nothing too sparkly or very extended, but pleasant in listening and enjoyable with even harsh EDM songs.

I also feel that the tonality of the VxV allows it to be good at both instrumentals and vocals equally. Although the timbre is not the most organic for stringed instrumentals, it is good enough to not make me think only about timbre in most of the scenarios.
I’m also kind of blown away with the tonal density. Because monitors that are somewhat linear and balanced seem to have lesser weight and body in notes. The VxV has wonderful tonal density with almost anything I try it with.

As an everyday earphone, how does the VxV perform? Currently I am using the VxV with Lotoo S2 for streaming TV shows as well. It does well with lesser quality YouTube videos or mixes as well. So for me it is perfect since a portion of my audio consumption is not lossless and cannot be lossless since they are YouTube shows.

I would love to try the VxV with a balanced cable and a balanced source and see how the experience pans out.

twister6 review is up

the kinetic bass feature sounds really interesting, also really awesome to hear it is not a gimmick and in fact offers something new that’s never been done before in iem tech.

From the sound impressions it looks like the KR5 would be my preferred tuning and signature, hopefully i’ll be able to hear all three sometime this year once the audiotier tour gets going

This is cool, thanks!

Funny how FiR uses the same cylinder case for all of their IEMs. It feels so cheep compared to how nice their IEMs feel in the hand.

The switch over to 2-pin connectors is an interesting choice, getting away from their more custom / proprietary connection from the M3/M4/M5.

I got to meet the FiR team in their office in Vancouver, Washington last year. Really nice people, let me hang out for a couple hours and try the M3/M4/M5 (ended up buying a VxV). If anyone is in the Northwest US, I really recommend visiting them. I’m going to try and stop by again next summer when I’m up there to listen to these new pieces.

Have an XE6 on the way, hopefully it’s good, basically blind buy to entertain myself on a long trip lol. Will get some comments in when I get the chance

Well I’ve been listening to the xe6 on and off, lots of burn in and source and cable changes and think I have a grasp on it; I think it’s pretty dogshit I don’t like them. Genuinely can’t understand how they try and justify the price that it is, is mine entirely broken, what went wrong? They aren’t working out well for my preferences and sources. That being said, I won’t comment on it further because I don’t think it’s working well with my setup, it’s not to my preference, and I’m busy enough where the slightest thing will irk me, so I’ll wait to give it a more fair chance. But still, I don’t see how it can save itself for me, really just not my jam and not good value

Looks like today is the day for dissapointments . Has FIR ever been hit or miss for you where you can kind of just imagine this IEM being shit even without giving it more time?

No, I’ve consistently liked Fir offerings, really really like the m5 and the vxv, and while I think the m4 and m3 didn’t offer as good of value as those two, they were good and consistent as well. The xe6 is just very left field, and I don’t really think any of it’s strengths are positives for me, and it’s weaknesses are very highlighted on my setup/with my music. I was informed that the xe6 might not have been up my alley, but I wanted to try them regardless, from what I’ve seen apparently the kr5 would have been a much safer choice for me

Gotcha gotcha, well that’s a shame. I’ll def be curious to hear if your view on tthe xe6 changes with more time. And yeah It might be a good idea to get the kr5 after to wash the taste out of your mouth.

I’ll experiment more with sources, tips, and cables first and get more listening time before I spend any more money. It’s really not a good match right out of the P6P, especially with something like a PW cable, currently the best pairing I have at the moment is LPGT Ti → 424 with an eletech aeneid and I still don’t think that’s really what I want out of it. Since I’m traveling I don’t have too many options, but so far it really likes a clean and focused chain that’s forward with a harder edge. But even then it still doesn’t sound quite right. It’s pretty picky on what works well, can become too unbalanced pretty quickly. Currently I like jvc spiral dots with it the most to at least emphasize what it’s good at and balance it out a bit. Actually surprisingly conformable, didn’t think it would be given how it looks lol

Anyone have any ear tip recs for the VxV? Could never get a good fit with the included silicones and have been using the included foams. Which have worked great but are starting to wear out and slip off the stems. No real preference for material types just curious if others like any 3rd party tips. Usually prefer silicones sound but foam tends to work easier for my weird asymmetrical ear holes.

i use the Spiral Dots, and like them a lot. I’ve also used FInal Audio Type E tips. The Type-E fit my ears well, but don’t sound as good to me as the Spiral Dots. I actually use two different spiral dot sizes: XL for left ear, L for right ear.

Cool I will check those out. I’ve used the finals and spirals on past iems and liked them. I’ll grab a few pairs. Appreciate the suggestion

Picked up some spiral dots and they ended up fitting great. Nice improvement in bass impact as well over the foams
