Skollvar v2 its a fusion of 50% silver 50% copper 19awg… no coated silver
Nice! Sounds good. I’m debating on doing something as well. lol so many options
You are using stock cables for all your headphones?
No I have a cosmic cable for my utopia. It’s a pure silver one. I like it for the utopia. It was also good for the Susvara (had it reterminated for utopia).
Saw this picture over at head-fi of the final prototype, this is a really interesting rethink of earcups
I believe it’s a silicone type material, fwiw
Unfortunate that the cable is built in, afaik
I’m mostly interested in how that impacts the driver response.
It seems more like the RAAL/MySphere, where the driver is almost in freespace, and I wonder if that slim perforated layer is enough to reinforce the Bass response.
Given it’s a prototype, that they haven’t let anyone listen to yet, and seems mostly focused on weight reduction 220g. It might just have been about saving weight I guess, but if it does provide enough encapsulation to provide the typical function of the ear cup, it’s quite interesting.
There could also be some way to incorporate some of the metamaterial ideas from the Dan Clark stuff into a structure like this.
Strikes me as potentially actually innovative and we don’t see much of that in the headphone space, outside of the occasional esoteric driver.
Yeah since it’s a prototype it’ll definitely change some. Well you’d think. The D8KP prototype looked kinda odd too. It definitely gets people talking.
I have to say, the d8kple combined with the callisto (not alone) is the best decision I have made in audio so far, it sounds so good that I can’t stop listening, sometimes get to dangerous volume levels and not caring…
Little discovery today: Normally the lowest notes of sub in a headphone will have a sound atleast from all the hps I’ve tried before, but with the d8kple the lowest notes of sub produce air too that lets me feel the direction and the driver, like how a subwoofer does it but in my ears instead…
I found this happening to me with LE as well. They pushed me to turn the volume up more than usual.. wasn’t a fan of that personally but that headphone sounds mighty good
Maybe not dangerous levels for me but a tick or two higher for the LE for sure. It helps even out that vignette effect.
@Rhodey and other LE owners, did your LEs break in gradually or was it more of a pop in ah-hah moment ~100 hours? Im still trying to wrap my head around it, im trying it today with my plussound x8 cable and it is for sure more coherent and the bass is better. More and better space as well. I am at 50 or so hours of play time and im still perplexed. I want to lile this one but i think i have a chain mismatch.
For me it took more than 100 hours and I was kinda regretting the purchase until I switched to all copper cable, it felt better but still not enough to stay. Then upgrading my cables with the Callisto and and TWL power cables and the thing just opened up and now its my fav HP.
After the upgrades, mids are nicely present and not sucked in, bass punches so hard I get fatigued from it sometimes and digs deeper than the lcd24, and treble is beautifully balanced and never reaching hot. So it might be a synergy issue for you. Its a perfect allrounder for me now for all genres. I’m already planning to order a Brise cable for it (this much I’m sure I like it)
I think it was gradual. The bass and space definitely improved after 50+ hours. It may have been closer to 100 if I remember correctly. Could have been the headphones. Could have been my brain but I’m pretty sure they opened up after the burn in.
Ill give it a bit more time then.
So I ended up ditching the LE and returning to the Pro for the same reason. I think my final conclusion is that while the LE is a better all rounder, actually a bit more forgiving of chain, and a slight technical improvement in some areas, I think it removes what really makes the Pro worthwhile to me which is that texture and bass shape, and that’s just something that isn’t as present in the LE. I also think the LE just doesn’t suit my chains as well as the Pro. The LE are nice, but I’d rather have the Pro as it’s a more unique headphone in my collection, and the Pro just does something with bass shape and texture that other headphones don’t, including the LE to some extent. The Pro makes me actively want to listen to them at times over my other headphones, the LE really doesn’t
This isn’t to say the LE is a bad headphone, I just think that you trade off the main thing that makes the headphone worthwhile over others for a more well rounded and “complete” average experience
Yah, i think this is realy what it was for me. Its a better can if i am being completely honest with myself, but its just not as special. I got a pro back in house a few weeks back and i was honestly happy to find out it realy is special and it wasnt just faulty memory
I don’t even know if I’d really call it a better can lol, rather a sidegrade that fills a different more average role lol. Wouldn’t really say the LE really competes with things moreso than a Pro, more just different tradeoffs between the two, similar tier in the end all things considered. You get a bit more refinement and improvement in performance for wider amount of categories but lose a huge advantage of the pro in bass and shape/texture, so I think overall it evens out, and I think the value prop of the Pro is better as well unless LE come down to Pro used prices. All really depends on what you value though I guess. I just personally find the characteristics of the Pro as something more valuable than what the LE offers instead compared to other headphones.
Thanks for bumping this up, I’m reminded that I haven’t tried the brise yatono on the d8kp yet… now I have… just last night…
Fantastic pairing, added some much needed dynamics, denser note weight, more command/control/grip, sweeter highs, and texture for dayz. Still didn’t help much with stage depth, but it’s still awesome. I much prefer this to the danacable, which I thought upset the balance a bit. Overall, refines the experience while elevating it from top to bottom, and lets this hp do what it does best. Very very nice !
I wonder how the orochi would sound on this, maybe in a couple of months I’ll have my answer
Why a headphone like the LE loses its ability to texture when its the same driver as the pro? Is it because its less dry richer or something else? So the drier the more texture you get? (Trying to understand what causes this shift)
Also is it still under susvara-utopia-mysphere-1266 and above hekse-diana technicality wise like the pro?
