Final audio thread, D8000 / Pro / X8000 / Sonorous II / III / IV / VI / VIII / X

Ok, so stage and bass has improved some. Feel depth is better too. Im getting a bit of time to listen tonight. I had them burning in the last few nights and a little during the day. I’m prob still under 100 hrs.

Edit: cymbals arent as harsh either… Decay seems better too

Ive got some d8kp in house again, and yah, the LE are a technical slight step up from memory but i pretyy significantly prefer the pros. The hyper texture foratd presentation just isnt someyhing i have found anywhere else outside of estats and is mega pleasent. If LE had pri texture i think they would a much easier recomendation tbh

My D8KP were a customer return from a dealer, only a few days old, so I have no idea how many hours were on them, I will say while I thought the Bass was astonishing (in it’s ability to present the timbre/texture of the note, not quantity) the first time I every heard them, and still hold that view, it took me a full 2 weeks to really “get” the overall presentation.
And it’s the only headphone I’ve owned that took me time to “get”.

@Rhodey
I would really love to hear more of your impressions on the LE and EC-SB. I am just putting a note here so we keep it in the right thread.

With your recent sale post I know your general feelings, but I do wonder if it is a “this gets it done/close enough at a better price” or a general more to your preferences type move.

I should also answer your question. My LE has been sitting as while I’m trying to compare dacs i am trying to keep to more familiar headphones. I also think the LE will take some burn in, and i dont want to run the $$ tubes if im not listening.

Speaking of tubes, i do want to try the elrogs one day…

Just a word of warning, since I just ordered tubes from them, Elrog will only insure tubes bought through official distributors or directly.
There are no official distributors of Elrog in the USA you have to email them and purchase direct. Or live without a warranty.

It’s just really enjoyable. And it’s nice because the Utopia works really well off it too.
I only want one tube amp and it’s about synergy with that tube amp. My plan eventually is a DNA Stellaris to cover all my headphones. I’ll still keep a decent ss around too but I’d like my tube amp to be the main piece to pair with them. I should have tried the D8KP before I picked up the envy. Kinda jacked that one up lol. But it’ll be ok in the end. And it’s not about money. I probably could sell the D8KP for more than the Sus. And the Stellaris will end up costing me more than the Envy in the end (probably will get the stepped attenuator).

I’ll go into more detail as I listen. It kinda has this smooth but detailed feel. All the info is there but it’s never harsh. Brass and cymbals carry the best weight and texture that I’ve heard too. I know the bass is textured and it’s talked about a lot but the other areas are really nice too. And vocals don’t come off as thin imo.
More to come, I’m sure.

Received the D8kple and the silver cable sounds like a soft ass… no punch no bass and weird splashy treble… The moment I put their copper cable… Punch (punches more than the lcd24 now), bass, treble, and everything is fixed compared to the silver… Reminds me of how Lcd24 got fixed when I went from their silver coated cable to the Norne fusion.

It doesn’t wow immediately but there are moments of aha for a first session. So far I like the space and seperation its clearly ahead of the audeze, and how controlled the bass is, what used to distort in the bass now has a different sound. Guitars sound wonderful but drums sound better on the audeze.

Macros don’t cover micros and I can hear both simultaneously compared to the audeze which is nice.

I can feel there is potential so will keep listening. But the higher volume than usual is true with the D8kpLE too, more efficient than the audeze but have to listen higher for it to come alive.

I’ve only used the silver, maybe I should pull out the copper.

I will say I had your same impression initially too. I bet yours needs some burn in.

Yes its a rarely used piece, but man the copper made me hold the headphone, the silver was a regret feel… Try it.

Definitely will!

I think with the right pure silver cable it’ll be really good. I’m tempted to try one.

With the copper cable it’s a 4.4. I didn’t realize that until I got home and pulled it out.

Did you use the same amp? Just an adapter? I’ll have to pick one up.

The same amp. The v550 has xlr and 4.4

Is it the same out of both? The bliss has both but it’s not apples to apples. Plus the 4.4 case on the cable is too thick. The bliss has a recessed jack so it won’t seat properly.

I did have an extra cable laying around. It’s a zmf custom kit one. I’m pretty sure it’s their silver plated version, but nothing special. I do think the bass impact is better off initial listen.

Definitely need to pick up a better one. Not sure if I wanna go Brise or something else.

I really wanted to try the extra c-15 s-mod i jad on it, but it would have needed a headphone side retermination. As in, unless someone else did it almost no chance on getting dhc to do it in any timely manner.

A brise would be very interesting (and look damn sharp!)

You still using the D8KP LE? Any thoughts?

I am very bad at using the things i have + ive been busy + im trying to get as much time in with the utopia for the dac comparison and to see if i fully want to keep it.

Tldr: im trash at this so no

That’s ok. I get it. I took over a week off with the D8kp and used just the utopias to see how they compared.

Yes the same. I already ordered an adapter to use the norne cable i have for audeze with it, because it really reminds me of the same issue i had with the silver coated stock cable of audeze.

Norne cable copper or silver?
