Unfortunately the Sayes power amp blew a fuse but I did get to use the preamp. It was in an unfamiliar system so really hard to say what it was doing but it sounded nice, no noise floor, up to my standards I guess. Have some nice pictures of that guy’s gear though. He had a very interesting collection of both electronics and headphones.

These were all from the same table, will make another post with some of my impressions and favorites from the meet

He’s using the wrong pads on that yammy though  lol
I’m def curious about what you think of it

oh didn’t know there was another pad option, these were the full suede pads. Yeah it was strange but I kind of liked it just because of how different it sounded to other headphones. And the build and comfort were exceptional. It sounded v-shaped to me. The top end had a ton of air and presence and the low end was very powerful but almost too much at times. I kind of want to get one to demo on my home setup but the price is a bit restrictive

Yeah, the suede does that from my experience. It can be nice if you want to warm it up (too much imo), but ultimately I thought it sacrificed a lot of things that hp is great at. Super comfy with those suedes though!

For the “Wicked Schiit” meet I brought the Bricasti MC1, Schiit Urd, Schiit Kara, Schiit Mjolnir 3, and the Firstwatt SIT-3. I took a video of my setup but can’t upload that format so have some pictures of pieces of my setup:

ETA O2 on the MJ3:

People were hesitant to use this one because it looks cheap and is on ear but those who did try it really liked how punchy it was.

Tungsten SS (purple) and DS (orange)

I really liked trying the Aegis and Airmid amps. I’ve heard the Airmid before but not the Aegis and think I preferred the Aegis for its warmer more punchy sound. With the atrium the Airmid sounded a bit more open and laid back but was missing a bit of energy that I got from the Aegis.

I also really enjoyed hearing the Caldera again and it paired nicely with this Cayin HA-3A and 2541 dac:

Auteur classic was also quite nice and I have set of my own on the way:

Also, this recording was incredible, was a great test track for tungsten and to see what it can do:

good to know, will try the other pad, I presume it’s leather, if I get the chance to hear it again.

Very cool experience, and thank you for sharing.

I’ve posted that album under the music thread. It’s a great album, IMO. Chesky makes some great recordings.

Looking forward to more impressions.

Your are correct with the leather, similar to the utopia

That’s a bummer. Thanks for the write up. Looks like it was a fun meet overall.
Is this the first time you heard the aegis or have you spent more time with it before.

First time, it’s an awesome amp, if one pops up on the used market I might have to buy it.

Headamp had the single Modhouse Tungsten demo, not bad and reminded me of the LCD-4 out of the CFA3 prototype. I think the representative said they were $1.5k

Oh, I want to go try that tomorrow. One of the few HP pieces I’m a bit curious about

Oh, no. I had a work conflict with last year’s CanJam NYC but would have avoided that if it stayed in late February in 2024.

Now, CanJam NYC is landing square on another weekend I must work. F*CK!!!

I hate those weekends you know you have to work and youre hoping nothing happens but then BAM it’s only the most fun stuff that day. Ive been there a lot working production schedules.

I work in professional motorsports. I wish I could tell my boss, “Hey, can we postpone the race to the following weekend?” but that’s fantasyland.

Oh, God, don’t I know: The constant sound of 100 crickets in each ear 24/7 remind me of the lessons I should have learned as a much younger man.

I also am the lead singer in an actively gigging rock band here in the Syracuse area. I wear good plugs, but it’s too late to save my hearing from terrible tinnitus and the loss of most upper-frequency hearing.

Hey, at least I don’t have to worry as much about hot treble in headphones anymore – I can’t hear upper treble, anyways!
