YG Acoustics

Hi YG enthusiastis,

as I was on my journey to find MY dream-loudspeaker, in my primary listening room. I did a lot of research and listening sesssions the last 8 months.

My shortlist vendors where: Rockport, Magico, Raidho, TAD, Kharma and YG Acoustics (went away from any kind of boutique manufactur). Tested YG as last testing objects.

One of my dealers here in north-germany had also quiet a good range: YG Peaks Descent / Carmel 3 / Hailey 3 / brand-new Sonja 3.2. As I’ve heard many redicilous good speakers in all kind of ranges, including DIY-High End - I was completly shocked about this tiny-shiny Carmel 3.

The listening room was not small at all, but those Carmel 3 sound so damn impressive, that I said okay, now I need to listen to Hailey (Sonja out of my reach). Wow I was shocked, in direct comparison with the Carmel 3, Hailey 3 was not even close FOR MY EARS!

My dealer (he also had Wilson Audio Alexxa V in the same room  was smileying and said:

yoop, I’d the same first impression, those new Carmel 3 are playing in their own League and I wish more serious audiophiles wouldn’t just look at speaker size and make their decisions, prior to listening!

Long story short: YG Acoustics Carmel 3 in bronce with custom milling ordered and will receive them this month.

My dream-speaker jorney ended, at least for current home  Listening and electronic combination will follow soon. My new speaker cables have been delivered already: Audio Argento Flow 4m (of course used  ).

Anyone who has a chance to listen them in proper rooms, go for it! Also pay attention to AMP they use…

Hi music & hifi enthusiast

I’ve now played around with Carmel 3 placement and even the aluminium drivers will need at least 100h+ to perform on optimal level, those little speakers are in a different league!

I’ve to say, I’d the chance to listen to Peaks, Hailey’s (Sonja’s 3.2 with Boulder electronic, next week special private event  ), so I know how YG’s sound with dedicated low-bass drivers as well, but what the carmel 3 deliver on low frequencies (40-90hz) is impressive for a speaker of that size! Also don’t underestimate the size, even my listening room has just 45qm, they easiley drive bigger rooms.

Here a short summary on my German community site: Interaktiver Guide: YG Acoustics Carmel 3 use Google translate.. this blog article includes also my complete chain, including network setup

So anyone moving up the step and loving closed box designs , like Magico, Auer Acoustics, ATC, Kii, etc - I’d highly recommend testing YG as well…

First sound impressions:

  • detailed, but still not clinical (nice fit to Grimm MU2 ;-)
  • Prettty large soundstage and depth-layering is in a league I usually only have heard with speakers far beyond €80k
  • Vocals are very close to fullrange drivers! (As I’ve direct comparison with my Cube Audio chain)
  • Soulution 725 and my Class-A Monos now shine :sparkles: next level with those speakers…

P.s.: yes, room setup is NOT optimal I know, but it works well…

So fullrange setup will have now some brake

Good morning Hifi enthusiasts,

wanna share some experience with my YG’s and my latest DAC comparison. Which showed me, how important it is, what type of speakers you have (transparent/neutral vs. more nicely coloring)!

DAC tested directly at the same audition:

  • Abbas Audio HERMES Signature (PCM63k) via AES/EBU to Antipodes K22 G4 & chinch to Preamp
  • Grimm MU2 via XLR to PreAmp
  • Ideon Audio ION via Ideon Audio USB Siren to Antipodes K22 & XLR to Preamp

All 3 DACs are connected to my Soulution 725 PreAmp (Soulution for sure is a transparent powerhorse, like CH Precision, so no coloring here). Class-A Monos (LinnenberG G.F. Händel, German handcraft).

Roon Core Grimm MU2 (latest firmware!) and Antipodes K22 configured als Roon bridge only. Highly optimized and cascaded Hifi-LAN setup. Last mile to Antipodes & Grimm: EAL-1000 Hybrid LAN-Filter.

Conclusion:

  • I always preferred the Grimm MU2, but was really shocked, how much coloring happened! I don’t mean it in a negative way, but showed clearly, there digital filterung is for shure on the smooth side, as I’ve seen by many Tube-based, FOGA and R2R-Ladder DACs. So this DAC is now my preferred one in my fullrange (Cube Audio) chain, as many know, those speakers are highly sensitive and Ideon Audio was way to transparent!
  • Abbas is still for me an Audio Note/Aries Cerat Helena killer! His price class is unbeatable and his smooth voice/instrument separation is really for complete non-fatigueing-listening! Of course Grimm MU2 is clearly showing more depth and slightly more detailed (some would say: more treble in the mids), but for anyone looking for those kind of digital smoothness: go for it!
  • Ideon Audion ION is the complete opposite and for sure some of the prominent Sabre ESS9028Pro representative. There USB implementation (additional ESS chip) and clocking is outstanding. I’m confident with their own ESS firmware, the have perfected the optimal digital filtering for the DAC chip. Many Sabre-DACs I know, focus mainly on FPGA programming and/or analogue output stage. This DAC shows the brutal truth to my YGs, it is so damn transparent, you hear everything! I love it

Peace from Germany & happy christmas holidays!

So here my primary chain, which I’ll sticker longer with…
