Beatles White Album vs. The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street Album? That makes things more difficult for me because The White Album is like the only Beatles Album that is extremely good (for my tastes and opinion).
This might be the best quote I’ve heard for audio.
Agreed. Ive defiantely had stuff where i go “this is better!” Simply becauae ive been in a good mood and had good music only to do a 180 with a couple weels of ear time
Recently, after playing with quite a few allnic cables, I feel like hi-end cables exist to enhance synergy (assuming it matches your system). Maybe it was cheating since they’re all from allnic, but I guess you can’t really put a price on that… well you probably can, but I think y’all know what I’m getting at.
Not sure that’s considered a lesson but maybe an insight. Might be obvious. lol
That’s all I’ve ever heard cables used for: post-system tweaking, micro tuning. Just a little salt on top of the dish.
Lesson I learned today - even more than swapping gear in your chain and moving step by step, listening to other people’s full chains (and even better if they have different preferences than you) can teach you a lot about what you’re looking for
Ohh, that’s super interesting. So you got to listen to someone else’s chain today?
What were your conclusions?
Will probably write some thoughts and impressions about this tomorrow but got to visit @sa11297 and listen to a bunch of gear (although briefly with each).
Chain was PC to Dave+MScaler and WA33 Elite and 3ES Elite all with stock tubes and I believe the 3ES and Dave were connected to a Powerplant 3.
Listened to my own Susvara and then the house’s Utopia, 009, CRBN, X9K and finally the Shangri La Sr.
Things I have learned. If you know someone with more experience than yourself then listen to their points of view before jumping. It can and will save you money. Also always try and road-test before you buy if possible. There are few people I trust on this marble we call Earth. In this particular hobby they have never let me down. I pick up new stuff every day by listening or reading to these views. I cannot imagine the money I would have wasted by now if I had not. Example would be a tube amp. You may love the amp but the tubes might not be the right ones for YOUR ears. Learn your tastes before buying something so you do not buy “CLOSE” instead of just right. Also, Synergy is a thing and can contribute to the enjoyment and you may find endgame way before you think. Large amounts of money does not ALWAYS buy happiness. Endgame can be had with the correct synergy at different levels. Just rambling but it contains valuable info and what I have learned so far. 2 channel, Solid state, OTL amps, Hybrids. Dac’s of different variations. All can have synergy with the right combo.
I am quickly realizing that at some point you can get to a dangerous place between satiation and boredom in this hobby. I am somewhat satiated thus bored and have been rolling tubes, this may be an activity for people who are gluttons for punishment…
Beats buying another piece of hardware though. Or at least that’s what we should be telling ourselves.
Well there’s always speakers…
Yeah well… i neither deny or admit that Salk sound may be building a custom pair of BMR towers ![]()
You’re a horrible addict.
It’s almost midnight, the heat of the day is gone and the air conditioners are turned off, everyone in the house has gone to bed, and yeah, sometimes I still think that the biggest audio upgrade you can make is turning down the noise floor on the entire outside world.
Pretty much the main reason I exclusively listen at night. That and my mood tends to be consistent at night. Only thing that ruins this is having to sleep. Lol
Listen & learn from experienced people, seeing Hifi from his origin. I mentioned it many times, but Janos is for me really someone I’d call mentor.
P.s.: he covers a lot…
He is such experienced and stopped buying stuff, of course no one (most) of us are able to do (build) that. He really explains stuff, yes heavy engineering sometimes, but still so many times eye-oening for me.
A couple drinks and a couple tokes makes yo a WAY better listener when you sit down to really enjoy your system. I still haven’t figured out which one it is, but it’s either my perception of what I’m hearing rising to the level @M0N hears all the time. Or what I’d imagine a well put together $100K system would sound like.
So listening on alcohol and THC are like Yggdrasil for the brain? Loads of fun but not necessarily accurate.
Zing!
