Next i visited an old guitar pal. I told him about my audio stuff and he goes “Hold on!” Brings me out to his car and show me a few pieces his friend gave him just earlier after he upgraded.
Old AV receivers that don’t have 4k HDMI connection are special donation items at the goodwill.
The Adcom amp actually has a following because it’s a Nelso Pass design and you may be able to get a few bucks for that locally. It’s from the early 90s They’re sought after but not high dollar.
That black thing is obviously a butt plug and I wouldn’t be showing it around to your friends lest you’re sure they won’t judge.
Yeah the av receiver world moves fast. What does interest me is that it has a 2 ch option. I would be interested in if it would hold it’s own if used to just plug in some speakers at his shop. (I am sure it would, jist not aure if it is worth it.)
Yeah but it was made in new jersey, and even more damning East Brunswick! I know a guy around there and he is half decent, but everyone else…
6П6С is Russian Cyrillic for 6P6S. That tube has the OTK stamp on it, which indicates it was made in the the Reflector Plant in Saratov Oblast, Russia (Old U.S.S.R.). It is a drop in equivalent of the 6V6/6AY5 tube family. Your tube was manufactured in July of 1968.
The Adcom amp is what i used to drive my HE6se’s with, its a proper power amp and has a loyal following w/ folks spending good money to have them freshened up, there used to be a a few fellows that worked them exclusively. The Anthem recievers were nice, unfortunately today w/out the HDMI inputs or output’s their value is minimized IMO. It’s still a damned fine pre-amp though.
Sweet knowledge drop! I assume by the fact i see they are being sold for just a few pennies then they are mainly used for what i had them doing, sitting in an amp just to get it working before it is replaced.
Well they looked cool, the fact the glass wiggles independent of the bass is less cool.
My Exogal stack had no synergy w/ HP’s, the Amp in the Comet for HP’s is competent but nothing particularly good and once in a while when it was convenient i would run an IEM off it. (I thought it was fine being used on IEM’s)
Jeff himself admits he NEVER envisioned the DAC or the Amp being used for HP’s and simply added the HP out to the DAC for convenience on a desktop system. He built and tuned the combo to be an all-in-one inexpensive ($7.5k +) “high-end” system for small to medium sized rooms or an office desktop environment.
Jeff, the CEO of Exogal warned me and others against using the ION with anything other than a 4-8 ohm load, he said it REALLY would not like that and he would not warranty the amp against damage if used that way…(ie. to power HP’s or even speakers that dropped too low a load)
If the glass wiggles, that is fine…as long as the seal on the tube isn’t broken. 6V6 family of tubes were actually a common tube and were used right before EL84 tubes sort of took off. Those Russian ones like the one you have actually are a case where the Soviets made a decent tube (which in my experience is uncommon as the only one I have thought sounded above average so far is the old 6P14P-ev (7189/EL84/6BQ5).
Oh yes, they wiggle a ton. But they worked and i think the guitar distortion was intentional and not a tube about to blow… this time.
I cant comment on their hifi sound but ill take your word for it. Itll now be used in studio/on the road so they will need to grab a little more well built tubes or ones that fit their sonic tastes more. Which tbh i dont think is a tube ive looked much into.
Ill be honest i was going to go today but didnt. If people are interested ill go to the open house tomorrow. Its a house i am semi interested in but is take it or leave it territory.
