I swear I did this solely for my sanity and consistency. The various system configurations I own make me happy and provide great joy and relaxation. I needed to remove the cable variable from the equation with a well known and built manufacturer’s product.
It helps allot that my dealer is happy to trade with me for firearms and their accessories.
Edit to add: it’s mostly @dB_Cooper ‘s fault, he made fun of the SPIDIF’s i mated to my Ideon piece so much i finally broke down and got extra extra fancy cables for that piece in particular

you’re welcome.
Picked one of these up today from USAM. After a couple of sensible offers, it’s the cheapest price I’ve ever seen one of these sold for historically so I couldn’t resist.
It’s not a good time for sellers ATM but don’t abuse the situation with undignified offers to sellers.
My intent here is to eventually pair it with a Typhon T2, but that can wait till 2026.
Over a year since I’ve purchased headphones, but after demoing the LCD-2F (along with the Focal Stellia and some Grados) I had to get one… or two.
A Padauk from this year and the 2.2 Pre-Fazor in Rosewood
2.2pf gang rise up!
Genuinely enjoy my old Audeze PF’s. Thank’s for reminding me to give one of them a spin today, it’s been a long while ![]()
Took the opportunity to throw them on my old Mapletree Ear Purist HD-150 amplifier in line w/ my Lampi Baltic3, heck of a solid combo ![]()
2.2PF gang, I have often heard 2.2PF and HE-500 mentioned in the same breath. Are they at all similar in sound, or were they simply two excellent headphones that were made around the same time, that have also stood the test of time?
No clue, never heard a hifiman
I borrowed a pair of He-500 a long while ago for a few days, I remember enjoying them but just not liking the build, especially the weird to me screw on connectors for the cables. I kept fidgeting with them to make sure they were not coming loose. Either way, just did not do enough for me to warrant the purchase at about $500 ![]()
As ever Hifiman are doing one of their stock clearance sales. So I picked up the HE-560 for around 170 Euros, a week or so ago, which is a ludicrously good bargain.
That kind of oily purple sheen is really pretty, sometimes lighter sometimes quite dark.
Sound wise, I like them a lot. I am baffled why they are not more popular to be honest. Quick and with pretty good imaging in a somewhat intimate sound stage they sound really good with orchestral music as well as electronica. Anything that needs a broad range of tones and agility for busy sections. Not as meaty in the bass as some but nicely extended. I would call it polite. Mids are slightly set back but nothing obtrusive and treble is extended and crisp without feeling spikey and in your face. I got these hoping they would be a step up from the DT 880 and I think they fit. Similar sound but notably more detailed, cleaner and precise.
You’ve gotten very good with the weaves on your cables!
Thanks! Realising they are nicer when a little loose made a big difference. Then I leave them to hang for a week or so to flatten out. Really ought to make some RCAs like that… hmmm that sound like an idea.
Well, this hits the right spot for me, Niimbus us5 pro combined with the Rockna Wavelight.
Treble and energy to die for just perfect, almost bright but not there yet.
The niimbus is giving me everything i felt lacking in the V550 and V2xx, truly combining and elevating both.
My friend who went from the v550 to the niimbus US4+ had the exact same feeling, pontus dac but exact same feeling the v550 felt lacking with so many headphones maybe if even by just a little and the niimbus truly had that effect for him.
My second 2ch ever, using the exogal comet + PowerDAC
The speaker stands arrive in a few days and I sold my biwired cables along the klipsch, due to unforseen expenses Im left with $20 KabelDirekt cables and not enough for decent cables ![]()
Continuing on my portables journey. I’ve bought another DAP, rebought Mojo 2/Poly and continue to invest in moderately priced IEM cables.
What is it the Niimbus does better than the V550 in your opinion?
Did you get from @elementze? If so you saved me further agonizing on it. ![]()
