What have you purchased recently?

Yeah, I was originally looking into IEM’s and happened upon this one. I figured I’d give it a shot because of their reputation, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s still very new, but it sounds very good to my ears.

I’d still like to eventually get one of their cables when I jump into IEM’s. Especially after this (their first headphone) cable experience.

I’ve been tempted to try this one with my Utopia:

Do it!

With a little help from @mochi I ended up buying this one today:

oh that is such a good pairing cable!

I don’t know what to think. They’re so light (in weight) and bright (in sound… and color)

This is definitely the most interesting piece of audio I have listened to in the past year… I’m not exactly sure if that’s a good thing lol

Looking forward to hearing your extended impressions when you get more time on them.

I have a bunch of headphones I’m reviewing at the moment, so I’m gonna put the fourte on the back burner and send it on a short loan tour. I just shared some very early first impressions on the 64 audio thread.

Picked up one of these little doodads. We’ll see if it’s legit. I’m not expecting much lol

Same here. Mine arrives on Friday. It’ll be interesting to compare notes on impact.

If I had a NUC and a streamer, both connected to a switch, would one of these go between the NUC and the switch or between the streamer and the switch? Or both?

Probably one before the streamer should be sufficient if the idea is similar to using optical.

What he said . Should be used on the streamer end. That’s how it’s explained from ifi anyway.

Thanks, that makes sense. So it protects the streamer from noise from the NUC, router and my PC.

I haven’t gotten into audiophile networking yet. I can see this will be a slippery slope.

It doesn’t need to be, you just have to have a good plan and knows what will go where. Where things sit has a lot to do with how complex things need to be or don’t need to be. If these work well though I can see them simplifying things a lot.

I’m willing to bet my desk is noise central. I have my AT&T gateway connected to a switch connected to an ASUS WiFi 6 mesh, all on or below my desk. My PC, NUC and PI2AES are all connected to the same switch.

I’ve been thinking about dabbling in lowering the noise by using an ifi or linear power supply on the switch. And using an LPS on the streamer (now that it has the 5V mod ).

I haven’t started yet because I know myself and can see myself obsessively buying more and more.

Network isolation at least in my tests here is the least critical, it does have an impact, and it’s a reasonably “cheap” test to run optical to the component and just stick a fiber media converter near the device, assuming you have a decent PSU lying around you can use on the media converter.
There was a positive albeit relatively small improvement when I did that for the Lampizators Network in.

YMMV my network only has 4 wired devices on it, though 2 of them are PC’s

Don’t take a look at what I just posted in the Used Deals thread, whatever you do.

I would say this is true but less true if you’re not implementing best practice from the get go. So the less care you’ve taken into your network design, the more impact you’re likely to see.

I dislike IEMs for various reasons, but for compactness sake, they are better than PortaPros.

Edit: I either need to make an extension cable or get a longer cable for these.

Audience AU24 SX AES cable.

I ended up with 1m since it showed up used and the dealer reached out to me knowing I’m looking for one. These don’t show up often from my research and especially not longer versions so it’ll do for now

My chain runs fully upgraded cables now:

  • Clarus Aqua power cables
  • DHC Prion4 for headphones and Prion4S XLR interconnects
  • Audience Au24 SX AES and Au24 SE RCA interconnects for my active speakers
