@M0N just curious about your decision to decide for Verity speakers? Did you have the preamp/amp before or after your purchase? Just curious about your ‘synergie’ decision, because I can only assume it is quite difficult to get 100k speakers, without having a complete chain in mind and replace it many times to find the right synergy… know a friend who have spent quite a lot in this range
Good question, I feel like I answered it here somewhere already but I can’t find that post so I guess I didn’t lol
You can see the initial process of my thoughts here from this post onward:
But basically it came down to 4 things I’d say:
I had already heard them at shows, was really impressed with the performance, and had another friend who really vouched for them as well, so I already knew it was a speaker that was up my alley
I had a dealer that was selling a used pair that I was informed of within reasonable distance, so it was something I could actually afford to consider lol (less than half value used), and this value here is also what pushed me toward it over a few other options I was considering where it would have been a fair bit more expensive for other options
It was a speaker that would have been able to be driven by my Aries Cerat gear I had at the time, and while not ideal, still would have been very solid pairing (and was a very solid pairing, but more on source later)
I liked the looks, and didn’t mind the name. I typically don’t care about any of that, but if something is hideous in both looks or name with how much I’d be paying for them, I better love every aspect lol, some speakers in this range are far too out there for me personally in the looks and name department
So I got really lucky here, because the initial show demo of these speakers was on LAMM gear in the past, and that’s the one that really blew me away and put verity in my head as an option (although it was a biamped setup of lamm gear lol). The Verity + LAMM pairing was apparently a known good pairing (only learned that recently though), so it was also something that stuck in my head. The reason why the dealer actually had the verity was because a guy had sold off his entire system to him, which he powered the speakers with LAMM. So the dealer already had the entire chain as an option. I didn’t initially plan to get the LAMM, but he let me demo them, and by then it was too late lol
If I didn’t already know a good higher end pairing, I bet I would also have been spending a lot of money and time to get that pairing perfect lol, I just really lucked out here in this case
A full ANUK setup can be pretty amazing from the time I have demoed them
I can’t imagine anyone “trying” to find good synergy in this segment. There would be minimal trial and error given the expense. So I’d think that you’d be best going with whatever the manufacturer had suggested.
Out of curiosity and now knowing about “voicing” the same has to apply to 2 ch amps, and finding out what an amp/pre was voiced with would be the way to go?
That’s literally one aspect how I narrowed down my list of 4, I thought Marten Mingus was a dumb name. I also dislike when companies name after composers, drives me nuts
Nah, you’ll see people go though tons and tons of gear in this segment, but of course that’s only half the people in this range, the other half are people stretching for their final setup (such as myself lol). Some mfg really don’t like to suggest stuff, so the people you really lean on here are dealers. Other mfg might have deals with some other brands or close friends so they only suggest them, even if those pairings might not make the most sense. And of course if the same mfg has their own source gear, you can bet your ass they’re only really going to suggest their own stuff again even if it’s not really the best option
Also looking at show setups is super hit or miss because sometimes they are amazing well thought out pairings, and other times they are just shoving together what they had on hand lol
Maybe maybe not, that’s assuming you can even find out that information. I mean just because it was used to create the gear doesn’t mean it’s something that would be a real world actually good pairing. Just like how while the prospect of getting the system that matches what was used in a studio is appealing in theory, you might find in practice that actually could suck in comparison to other options lol
You also don’t want to make the assumption that the product made in development is the same one that you can readily buy, I’d assume in some cases the design, sound, and synergy wildly may differ from the initial goal and prototypes, and some mfg may just stick with the same accompanying gear to test on regardless of if it ends up matching well or not, I don’t really know
Yeah, and it’s whatever for me, too many companies do it, I think it’s a bit irritating but if it’s a good product it’s not going to put me off from it lol, I just probably wouldn’t want to own it myself (although I do have interest in their gear now so the naming wouldn’t stop me in this specific case lol)
Random side note speaking of dacs, finally got my kassandra sold, and now have a field lice precision dac (rndac) on the way, curious how that holds up
Getting my Verity back, because I was stupid for ditching them because of size. Thank god the dealer was holding onto them and hadn’t sold them, although now I have to do a favor for them lol. That’s really all I have to say, super super super hyped to get them back and still kicking myself for rashly selling them. Will be holding onto the Pi2 for awhile while I give them the last chance (but more because I’m going to have to negotiate with a few other people to sell too since this dealer isn’t interested in them). I guess I can just think of this as an extremely roundabout way to ensure actually professional shipping, although sure going to be paying a lot more for that now lol
GOOD. Glad it worked out for you in the end and that you’re really really sure. You got the Pi2 for a good enough deal there’s bound to be no shortage of takers either.
I was thinking of trying another speaker, starting the cycle again accepting that they were gone and I fucked up, but I caved and reached out again and they weren’t too upset about me wanting them back lol (they thought it was a mistake in the first place but took them anyways lol). Don’t think I’ll really be happy with any other speaker as my main speaker at this point, and even if they’re a bit too large for my current space, I will make them work and they’re less room sensitive than the Pi2 from memory as well. Honestly felt like I was getting depressed from not having the Verity lol.
I also have a few Critical Mass Systems QXK (should have gone higher but wanted to keep size reasonable) coming in for finally getting a proper rack for the LL1.1 and associated, that should also be a nice improvement to the setup (more accurately something that they deserved lol)
Basically only thing to do is upgrade to sublime, and potentially check out a nicer streamer, but I think I wouldn’t want to ever touch this setup again, basically this setup will be sticking with me as long as I’m alive
