Verity speakers thread, Lohengrin / Sarastro / Amadis / Parsifal / Otello / Finn

Got my pair of Lohengrin IIS in today, still in the process of setting up, but figured I’d likely want to make a thread for it lol

What finish?

Weight: 500 lbs (227 kg) / 730 lbs (331 kg) packed - pair

Oy vey.

That was pretty quick…congrats!

Do you have to set that up manually, solo, somehow?

Set my amp to 4-8 ohms option and hooked it up. Just going to swap in the new cables that are also coming with this speaker right away. Works lol, but needed lots of tweaking.

So right away, placement wise, they are insanely picky, just getting them set up they sounded pretty wonky, but with help from the seller it’s starting to come together. First off we established how far they should be from the rear wall, we have it about 5 ish feet and we think it sounds pretty good that way, further out didn’t seem to improve anything and further back wasn’t as spacious and coherent. On the sides we found that around 6 ft was the right place to be there as well. Interestingly so far I’ve actually taken down a lot of the absorption I had and that has improved the sound, and also shifted more of my non corner bass traps to behind the speakers slightly off to the side vs where I had them in the past, that worked better. Sitting position is around 10 ish feet away, also ended up propping up the sofa so it sits higher with some wood planks lol, but now ears are more in line with the speaker, also tilted the speakers down a bit as well for the room which improved it. In terms of tilt in, just did the classic starting at equilateral and moved slowly outward, I was surprised at how far out it could tilt them out to increase stage without losing stage accuracy and precision, but will dick around with that more. Just trying to get them to sound good enough for now, will fine tune over months to come. But trying to get it right on first go nonetheless lol, glad most of my room is already well suited and treated so I don’t have any immediately apparent issues (when I first got my harbeth, it was clear I needed to up my room game)

Not messing with subs for now, so keeping those off and out of the chain

I’m pretty tired with moving all things around, the speakers have to be around 200 a piece, regardless of actual weight they are damn heavy, came in massive flight cases lol.

Gloss black, I would have liked some of the pretty wood more, but that’s just the specific speakers he had on hand, oh well don’t really care too much lol (likely contributed to the lower price I got on them, bet the wood is a fair bit more expensive)

So it is basically it is what I was thinking lol

It was, can’t really ship something like this easily, literally easier for the guy to just come to me, if I’m paying this much that should happen anyways. If a fool and his money are soon parted, it better happen sooner than later lol

Seller is here to help me handle them and set them up, also have other help if needed later on

I am really loving the feedback from other speaker names, Joseph, Verity, etc. Helps me have an idea on what to poke my head at if I ever change directions in the far future.

Woo Hoo!!! How exciting. Have a great time!

Hmmmm. So now I’ve listened to them for a bit. A case where I have nothing to say outside of that it’s pretty awesome, I can’t say there’s any comparison I could really make at least with what I’ve owned before. I could compare to a few friends systems but I don’t really think that would be meaningful. I think this is really is a case of something sounding so realistic that there’s not anything that I can really immediately describe. Will have to really think on things lol. I will say they are so far an incredibly stressful listen due to how resolving, liquid and coherent, and spatially accurate they are. Really makes you think you are in a space without fail so far

Also the seller told me I should upgrade to Lamm gear lol, will have to think on that. I already feel fully satisfied with this right away, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten something and thought “this is literally everything I could ask for”, with only a few hours of listening as well lol. Typically there’s almost always something I can nitpick or complain about, but there’s literally nothing here now that they are properly set up

@M0N Wow, that’s saying a LOT. Wonder how they will sound to you in a week!

You’re getting rid of a bunch of headphones now? lol First dibs.

No, because headphones do something these speakers simply can’t achieve: allow me to listen to music much more often. I’d only listen to this system if possible, but that’s not really feasible so headphones are somewhat of a separate entity for me. I will likely send up selling more things but it won’t directly be from this setup

For shits and giggles, I connected the allo revolution up to the system to see what would happen. Holy fuck where did everything go lol. Just destroyed the sound, made it sound incredibly boring and subpar, everything I liked about them gone lol

I would assume a change that drastic would be equivalent to a punch in the face. That level of detail in the rest of the system would overwhelm a single device or rather simply show the maximum ability for whatever it is….Congratulations on the new acquisitions :pinched_fingers::pinched_fingers::pinched_fingers:

If this is how the system sounded when I first listened to them, these speakers would be going right back into the truck lol

Suuuuuper exciting stuff! Congrats! Also indeed surprising to hear you not nitpick them, great sign!

What’s the listening space like btw? Not in terms of room treatment nor nothing, just mean like do u think u should get a super comfy chair with a foot rest or something lol. Gotta upgrade the surroundings with gear that fine, some pretty paintings etc

Just a room + the treatment, nothing else on the walls or in the space. I used to have a bookshelf but it’s no longer in that room since my cat somehow broke it. Seating wise, I have an I guess regular couch, and in off to the side a nicer recliner chair. I use the couch for listening since I found that anything with a backrest that goes too far up impeded sound, so the couch isn’t anywhere close to my ears per se. Not pretty but function over form, I don’t really care what the space looks like all that much

Fair enough, although surprising. Unlike with headphones feels like u really gotta pretty up ur listening space UwU. Maybe have girl decorate

Some things to note so far:

  • Staging is genuinely unnerving, I swear this thing can sometimes feel like it’s got iem levels of intimacy, but can quickly turn massive again. It’s got so much range, so much depth, and so much accuracy that it could be a the sole selling point of the speaker alone
  • I do not need my subs, like at all. Subbass was actually overpowering when first set up, took better placement + rearranging bass traps to fix that, truly full range
  • Pretty incredible coherency, everything sounds like it’s coming from one place, almost matching most single driver speakers I’ve heard, pretty nuts
  • The resolution on this thing is insane, it reveals everything but doesn’t feel like it’s doing so in an inorganic manner, never feels like there’s too much resolving power per se, always appreciated, same with texture
  • Dynamically extremely strong in both types, the large scale swings it can pull off without losing the smaller ones is shocking
  • Overall liquidity is really impressive, everything is so smooth and flows so well, but doesn’t interfere with anything whatsoever, feeds into the whole coherency thing
  • The speaker feels lightning fast and immediate when called upon to be, never unnaturally so
  • I think the signature is a bit warmer leaning neutral? I can’t nail it down, it will just meld into whatever music it’s playing, makes it really hard to identify it’s coloration, it’s the most realistic I’ve heard at least. I do think there is a slight roundness to the bass, but I think that’s more due to my room rather than the speaker tbh

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING BEAST OF A SETUP BRO!

Also very interesting on the staging :eyes: and also about the coherency since it was the only possible worry when u originally listened to it in the showroom

Thinking through a purchase like this… it scares the bejesus out of me. Had you heard any of the line before? It seems that at this level of audio product, actually listening to what you’re purchasing beforehand isn’t as easy. Compounded by the fact that there would be zero in the way of public reviews and such of the product. So you’re buying on trust from a dealer or another customer.

Also if you didn’t like them, it’s not like there’s a large pool of customers waiting to buy these so you’d be potentially selling them back to a dealer to resell?

I’m happy that you’re happy but the process of how you went about this purchase sounds like there’s a component the surreal or of insanity to the process. lol

Would the typical purchase of something like this involve a trip to a manufacturer’s showroom? I’m thinking more about the type of person that would buy these new rather than used but in either case, I find the process fascinating and almost alien to me.
