I currently have a Woo Wa8 and I do love it, but I’ve been thinking about maybe getting a dedicated desktop amp in its place since it never leaves the desk anyway. I’m wondering what would I be looking at if I wanted a tube amp great for HD600 and HD800s on a similar tier as the WA8?
What do you want to spend, for the HD600/800 you have a lot of options since the impedance is so high.
I haven’t heard the WA8, so I can’t compare quality wise, but the WA8’s in a bit of a deadspot price wise
The obvious step up is DNA Stratus/EC Studio
But you could also try the Felix Amps, there are a few Woo amps in and around that price point, the Cayin stuff.
What is it you value from the WA8, since tube amps cover a wide gamut of mid range warmth.
Can confirm the synergy on these with the Senns. If youre abe to wait a few months, and you decide it is the amp for you, I know a guy who will ne happy to hand deliver his.
Do you still have the Fostex and are looking to pair that as well?
Are there any cool OTLs in that price range?
I do still have the Fostex and still is probably the set that gets used the most, but usually gets used on the Questyle currently. I am in no rush right now, was really just curious whats roughly in that same tier as the Wa8 as ive been a bit distant from the forum for a little bit now and feel a bit out of the loop.
The WA8 hasnt been getting a ton of use lately, really nothing has, as ive been a bit extra busy lately, so i cant really say exactly what i value about the WA8 without a little refresher.
Well i think some considerations are if you want to stay in the same tier, go up one, down one, space constraints. And of course what do you want from it sound wise.
Another amp that comes to mind is the LTA stuff.
Hmmm yeah actually hadn’t thought about space constraints. For that alone I may be stuck with the WA8 unless there is something roughly the same size. I know about the WA7 fireflies which seems to be in the small side, but I think that MAY be a slight step down. Not sure.
The EC stuff will be bigger and a 2 piece chassis. The LTA mz2 is smaller, the mz3 i think bigger. But if you need to keep it wa8 size then yeah youre kind of constrained.
