I know, and that’s what I figured. but come on, can’t a guy be selfish around here?
I may really just have to take a next exploratory step with the cable company library as a 2024 commitment. Now that I’m so much more able to hear things with my existing chain, I’m thinking the only two areas I’ve yet to meaningfully look into are AC power cables and an equivalent tier level speaker cables.
Kudos on all of the filler touches you’ve made on the shit list though. A lot of content and I’m perfectly okay with it always remaining a work in progress. I hope you are too.
Maybe I’ll get to it eventually, will be awhile though
I’d really have to get some things back in to reassess, but I don’t have any speakers to do that with anymore lol
Prob worthwhile to look into given your speakers being pretty picky lol
Well, I hope they’re just a bit more than filler and there’s something worthwhile there lol, otherwise I’ll just remove it since I didn’t really want to add anything that would fall under as padding and filler, rather just something that I don’t think enough people are saying lol. I’ll finish up things there (or remove them) eventually, do plan to finish that even if I’m not going to really be adding anything new. I still need to do some description stuff for the speaker gear as well.
BTW, since I had to bail on the preamp comparison, my results are pretty much within the preamp section of the list. I’m sorry I wasn’t really able to get that done, I did end up hearing most of what I wanted to hear, but I don’t feel like I had enough time to really put the results to words in a real format since I still feel like for a truly fair comparison I’d have needed more time.
It was a happy moment seeing and reading through it. For one it gives me headroom if I want to continue to spend money. lol But the more I read your shit and the more I experiment the more I’m realizing that there is a sliding scale and some overlap given the right cabling the right synergy that some of your quibbles with certain components can be overcome. As I’ve gained in confidence, I’m feeling more comfortable in knowing what’s an absolute shit list comment and what’s an 80% shit list comment that can be corrected for either in translation or synergy or simply knowing that you’re not testing every possible scenario given the amount of time you may have to spend with something.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone an used the list as reference towards getting to the neighborhood. Finding the right house and then finding a parking space is still up to the individual but getting to the right neighborhood is IMO what the list is about.
Continuing on with the house analogy. It’s pretty clear that it’s the last 10% of finishing touch perfection that can take a lot of time, effort and money.
That, along with just preferences as well of course. I can’t try every possible pairing, and I’m sure there are some out there that would have changed my opinion on things a fair bit, can only work with what I’ve got
Yeah it’s more something that I want to be used in that manner anyways, I don’t want people using it in the same sense as a tier list as in this is the best go buy it, no it’s really just find something that’s interesting, get a bit of info on it, and then actually see if it’s right for you yourself
Yeah, although I would say that last 10% is worth it if you’re really dedicated enough, probably not if you aren’t
As long as it stays fun and the money doesn’t become a prohibiting factor. It’s an attempt at mastering the chain. To be honest the deeper you go the easier it’s been to hear differences as I introduce changes and I can’t quite explain that to myself in a way that wouldn’t sound either obnoxious or pompous or deluded to others or the layman. I have ideas and rationalizations as to why but it feels like a fools errand to try and explain.
