You basically either have to beg Craig to make a studio b 45 for you (if he’s even still making them, if he’ll even do that lol) or hope that a 45 balancing act or 2a3/45 comes on the market, or the aforementioned 445. Otherwise yeah you aren’t going to find many
Radu Tarta will also take custom orders and has built DHT HP amplifiers.
If cost is no object, then there is always Thomas Mayer
Ah yes that was an absolutely worthwhile piece lol
Yeah, I was considering him too. I remember soul searching for an tube amp for like 4-6 months last year and saw someone posted one of his 300B tube amps for sale. Never bite the bullet because I wasn’t sure if I really wanted 300B tubes since tube rolling them were expensive and the amp itself was already like $4K+. Then I remember seeing a ad months later in USAM for an amp that combines both 300b and 45 tubes amp. It was the same builder Radu, but it costed like $7K plus. It never occurred to me, but I could ask him to make a lower tier version of that amp with just 45 tubes compatibility. Again, not a main priority right now, more of a next year project.
I wonder what the wait time is for all of these amp makers. If it’s 12 months or more, it might be worthwhile getting on the build list, but I suppose that would depend on how much they need for a deposit.
If you want something custom the lead time on the builder ordering the transformers could be 3 months or more depending on the vendor, so it’ll almost always be hurry up and wait.
Talking to Kerry about the T2, their wait time is currently about 4-6 months and he said basicaly all but a week of that is just them waiting for parts that their suppliers can’t crank out fast enough. I suspect that’s even worse for smaller scale groups
Wierd question: Does the dac equivolent of masskobo exist? Something a bit more linear but with just the most forward and aggressive texture imaginable? Asking because that kind of sound may balance out several amps I like quite a bit but find a bit too smooth for sus, so it would be cool to try.
What about Berkeley?
I havent heard berk before but tbh thats not realy the vibe I get from its descriptions. MK isn’t necessarily ruthlessly reveling or linear, but just hyper hyper texture forward with overall realy good technicalities.
@M0N can we have a Mojo vs Baltic3 in the >> < style scale (M for mojo and B for baltic just to make it easier) please?

Which mojo in specific?
I think the pro because its closer in technicalities to the new x series.
To be honest, if you can wait two weeks or so @NickMimi will have both a B3 and X (between b4b and pro) on hand.
Actually, @M.J I’m going to hold off, and wait to see the nick impressions before answering lol
You’re putting a lot of pressure on the guy. He’s had the B3 for a while so looking forward to his impression as I’ve bee trying to get him on the Mojo bandwagon. Funny that I’ve heard his B3 and he’s heard my Pro but we’ve never had them side by side on the same chain.
Seems like a good idea for an article on the front page @NickMimi lol… No pressure
I am eagerly awaiting a classic Nick post. A nice detailed breakdown, thorough and thought out, followed by his usual disclaimer of “but what the hell do I know, I dont even know what gear is I just like/dislike it”.
Souldriver….My personal “Do NO harm rule”, I’m an amateur hobbyist with no technical or musical background or rhythm and taste. A simple well meaning fool with good intentions but a fool no less. I enjoy sharing my joy but have great empathy about the cost of this hobby, and the serious depreciation value of this equipment.
I can happily prattle on about an original early 50’s or 60’s revolver in good condition and easily recommend dropping hard cash on it because I know full well if cared for it will maintain and grow in value and even have a practical use. Electronics are a different beast
I tend to lose money on anything I keep long enough to finally get a good feel for and we are talking about allot of money spent on fun, non essentials. My easily experienced joy is not necessarily any sort of proper or professional recommendation or seal of approval It’s important that I get that point across IMO.
Happy listening!
