Fuck that list, i did not make a copy to hold onto and look over at my leisure, it’s not such a enjoyable read that I printed it out to fully enjoy on my flight this Weekend.
This may kill it for Nick. Note that I shut up immediately after I asked about the Blue Jeans Cable. I didn’t want to be an enabler… in which, I am ironically doing right now…
I’d say regular would be in holy shit mid tier instead of top. I’m already making the assumption there are better than stock tubes in there (I should note that thanks)
@Veritas told you, my ears are no good. The fancier stuff wasn’t long enough. I wanted a matched pair from one piece to the other. I’m busy listening to bubbles and don’t want to be bothered by the obtrusion of the cables. i don’t need any more stinkin’ cables.
I hear you but; don’t discount blue jeans cables just because they’re blue jeans cables, there’s a right time and place for everything eventually in one chain or another. Who knows maybe they worked there in that time and place ?
as always, burson is just way too much money. at half the price it would fit right into the market. TBH thats I feel about basicaly all of their stuff
Honestly, personaly, I would rank the amp fairkly high. I think the syngery with it is just a massive bitch to get right tbh. The micro detail focus isnt realy sometyhing ive found anywheer else in the range and the detail and staging technicaly are quite impressive. I am realy not a fan over all of the amp either, but thats just because blunted transients are a massive pet peve of mine
It’s nice for a few specific cans at the price, but honestly kinda unremarkable in the aspects I personally value. I don’t think half price, but I would agree it should be a bit less
I might put it on there, but I don’t know if I want to simply because I don’t enjoy it lol, it’s not something I’d consider buying for myself even with really good synergy
Fair enough… I tend to always think in terms relative to used prices… Burson has soloist 3XP that usually go around ~ 850 with supercharger and GSX Mini is usually around 1150. I think some other common options in that range:
Then you step up a bit higher:
Soloist Grand Tourer ~1850
Volot ~2100
Hypsos + Oor ~ 2500
I agree and do think the burson’s are too highly priced at msrp but their used prices tank quite a bit whereas some of those other amps hold their value better. So when you compare used prices I think the performance tradeoffs start to become more rationale. It’s just hard to navigate from the Topping/THX entry level options between some of the TOTL SS amps on Mon’s list. Perhaps the issue is that SS amps just don’t do enough “different” until you really step up in tiers.
Just for anyone else looking, you can 100% order the cable right now (xlr to dial 3.5 only due to wire thickness), you just need to email pete @ DHC to ask for it
I’d take the gsx mini 10/10 times over the Burson.
I tend to agree those price ranges are a bit dull with options for solid states. GSX Mini, ifi iCan signature are the two I had and enjoyed in the $1-2K range, the Ferrum is a good option in the $2-3K, depending on what you’re driving Benchmark can fit there as well. I personally never heard the Flux options but they seem to be favored by many. There’s also the Violectric options.
Once you pass $3K I think you start getting more options.
