Short High End DAC Comparison PT.1 & PT.2, Source Gear Progression, and General Thoughts

Well, this one is not going to be about really value or price brackets or generalized anything, this is kinda a more specific use case one focusing on max performance, it will make more sense later

Without trying to give away too much info, I’ve actually had most of the dacs in the comparison already for like 2 weeks now, and I might have to give them up sooner than I thought, so I figured I’d ask, what would you guys want to specifically see in the said article? Just in general about the dacs and anything surrounding them

Since this won’t be public, I’d personally like to see your fav digital cable you tried on them and why. But if you didn’t experiment too much and don’t feel confident then nvm

Ok, will do, also I think I will make it public in the end given how I’ve started writing it now, and no I won’t limit what I say just because it’s public

I’m probably not the target market for this article, but I do like some tables and shit scales. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, this has both no tables, AND no shit scales, sorry about that one, but that’s just because I don’t think they’re warranted given the format of what I’m doing

NO shit scales…?

Awesome. Look forward to it. Any chance an Abbas features in that list?

I’m not sure exactly what you want to do differently but the most useful pieces of information came from those charts you put together going over the different DAC characteristics. Had you not done that i would not have been educated enough to make my own purchasing decisions based on your comparisons and of course asking the right questions or more importantly knowing what type of characteristics i was looking for in order to ask for them.

A DAC is capable of scaling system performance incredibly making the expenditure real value added further down the line. Spending several thousand up front will then allow you to save further down the chain by making value based decisions on other pieces. I’m not sure if that made sense

Anyway, the character comparison charts were invaluable. :fire: :fire:

Nope

Nope, but I’m going to take a guess that this would be a level above what abbas would offer

Soooooooo, it won’t really have that either, but I will be explaining that in a lot more detail than a chart could convey (hopefully)

As you can likely tell, this is sort of a different direction unlike the others

Brother, i swear i will figure out how to save any words you put on paper. I may not be able to afford any of the stuff you characterize today, but if i live long enough, dammit if todays expensive technology tomorrow, won’t be what I’m looking for a decade or 2 down the road! :pinched_fingers: :star_struck:

I don’t know if I’d actually say that with what’s on the table and considering with what you have now, some of the things mentioned I do think could be fairly attainable for you if prioritized them :3

Omg will there be pictures?! :joy:
I’m kidding I know it’s not really necessary

Nah, especially not with the gear here, way way too identifiable (also it’s not only my own privacy in this case but also those who loaned stuff to me)

I’m pretty sure @Glide3 heard an Abbas and compared it with his past DACs… Just in case he wanted to chime in or not

Abbas has many models with different chips and tube complements. So comparisons are all over the place. His top of the line model 3.2 Signature has just started shipping.

Out of curiosity, do you have any prices on that if I did want to grab one? Might as well just reach out myself if I was that interested, but I’m just curious and not sure if I really need to grab another dac lol

Yeah Abbas sent over a list. I’ll put it here for future reference. This is about 2 months old. Some of them says sold out because he had no parts to build them but I think the supply chain has gotten better now.

3.2 SE was his earlier flagship and that costs around 3.8k I think.

His 3.2 Signature he said is around 2x the SE.

If you notice you’ll find similarities between Abbas and SW1X. Obviously the components used are different.

Suspected good pairings would be nice (like aic and masskobo whoch i dont think you have either of anymore)
