This is my favorite version of War Pigs.
I was invited to play golf today (I havenāt played in many years), but declined. It was a friendās birthday this past week and his in-law decided to taking him golfing and he invited me to tag along. I thought maybe weād be playing in our area (plenty of public and private courses around) but heās meeting meetings up with his in-law in his area which is Palmdale.
I donāt know whoās familiar with the greater Los Angeles area, but Palmdale is up north on the other side of the Los Angeles National Forest, up in the high desert. The only thing I know of Palmdale is USAF Plant 42. Other than that itās pretty ghetto (trashy ghetto, not violent ghetto).
Iām not unfamiliar with rougher neighborhoods having grown up partially in the Pico Union neighborhood of Los Angeles (near Staple Center). Palmdale isnāt that, but I just didnāt feel like spending the day playing on dead grass, and dirt. ![]()
Any hoot, when he told me were weād be playing (Rancho Vista Golf Club) it made me think of this.
Chris Duarte was one of those guitarists billed as the next SRV in the 90ās.
He was never really that, but there is some pretty enjoyable material on this album.
I really liked his first album but for whatever reason (lack of press maybe?) I forgot that he existed after that. Which is a really unfortunate thing to say about someone whoās had a 30 year old career.
Do you have any recommendations other than his latest album?
I donāt think heās evolved a huge amount to be honest, I hadnāt heard any of his more recent stuff until this popped up as a new release on Roon.
Iāll probably make it a point, to wade through his catalog when I get a chance, I just remember Strat Magic being a totally horrible master, which has dissuaded me from catching up.
The International Jazz Day playlist currently up on Roon is very well curated, a good sampling and very high quality recordings. Worth a listen even as background music if youāve ever been ājazz curiousā. ![]()
LOL, I just listened to a few tracks on the latest one and then switched to Strat Magic and he hasnāt evolved. I donāt think I need more than one album.
I didnāt remember that but having just listened to it, yes, itās pretty awful
Beast of Burden is my favorite Stones song.
Thru and Thru is my favorite Rolling Stones song. It probably is because it wasnāt well known and overplayed.
Iāve seen them 20 times live. They are my favorite band by a country mile. I HATE this song live but the studio version kills me every time.
The only time I saw NIN was when they supported Guns N Roses at Wembley Stadium in 1991.
GnRās performance was bloated and boring and generally disappointing but I remember coming away from the concert excited about the support band, who Iād never heard of. I bought Pretty Hate Machine the next day and never looked back. My only regret is not having had the chance to see NIN live again.
Some pretty cool acoustic versions.
