My girlfriend and I were in an REI store the other day and the overhead radio was playing Warpaint’s “New Song” which I hadn’t heard in quite a while. Anyway, I’m listening to this entire album again today and it’s pretty great

really liking this weird mesh of house and funk.
I am really beginning to think the identity of music in the 2020’s are modern takes and echoes of the 80’s and 90’s really taking what we learned and general sensibilities over the years an implementing to more retro sounds.
Really seen in artists like ginger root and Toro y Moi and bigger artists like Steve Lacy
and if were really talking Echoes this song by Q is an amazing example

I think my observations is that of someone who has been really struggling to put a particular aesthetic in this current era of music every decade has a very particular sound to it for me. Especially when it comes to pop music…but this specific decade so far feels lost but because of that yeah at least for me has been really fun to explore
