Just created a friend recommendations playlist and added the tracks here I didn’t already have or knew of.
Life songs. This guy just captures it.
I love how the spirit of nujabes and j Dilla are still alive to this day with the plethora of lo Fi producers we have today.
Is there an easy description for what “lo fi” music is? My 13 year old daughter put it on my radar recently when she asked me what “low-fee”meant (that’s how she pronounced it
).
I didn’t know the music, but I gave her a long and tedious explanation of “hi fi,” all the way back to the Latin root word “fidelis.”
…Because teenagers love it when adults give them long answers to simple questions that include ancient history and dead languages.
Too me it’s like lower end music equipment being used to make (subjectively ) good music. But im not sure what else anyone would say about though lol
lo-fi music today means something a bit different than what it used to mean decades ago… the lo-fi of today is more of a descriptor used for very specific genres of music, usually down tempo genres like chillwave and what has been coined as “lo-fi hip-hop” are the most popular.
It used be a way to describe more DIY music with many imperfections and usually recorded and mixed with not the most ideal gear, but this type of contrast to more polished and “radio worthy” music gave it a following and it gained popularity. Eventually it grew into sorta it’s own genre where people would puposefully chase that type of amateur sound and would even use lesser gear and methods of recording to get that distortion or lo-fi touch to their music.
Really feeling this one. I’d call it electronic, reggae and rock(?). Fun track with cool spatial presentation.

One of my favorite songs of theirs, Enon definitely has a knack for writing some very catchy music ![]()
So lo fi hip hop specifically is hip hop usually made to have a chill relaxing vibe and overall a slow energy with intentionally added grain and pops simulating the vynils aesthetic. Its a genre pioneered simultaneously by 2 DJ’s one in the US, jdilla and one in japan , nujabes. Both born on the same day both died on a February. Lol fi hip hop is currently the most popular lo fi genre popularised by this live stream
I’m a big fan of both dilla and nukabes but I’ve always preferred nujabes’s more organic drum samples

But j dilla has this addictive slightly off beat drum pad style as well

I go in many directions but lately I have found myself listening to a lot more Contemporary & Crossover Jazz. This track is from an album I am currently listening to from “The Rippingtons” Curves Ahead
That is what I’ve been trying to do and I’m not even halfway through.
@Mr_Makua you have the right idea. I will utilize my spotify sub instead. I was looking each one up in roon/qubuz - it was slow going…
A happy upbeat instrumental piece with some nice piano
Guilty pleasure time. I’m a huge angel beats, girls dead monster, LiSA fan and I recently rediscovered this angel beats live tour final from 2010… Been watching the whole live all night and reliving some of my younger years lol. This stuff seriously hits me in the feels not only because I have a attachment to the visual novel and anime that these songs are from, but also memories of the past that i have associated with this stuff.
here are a few of my favourite highlights from the live. (note: copy these into your browser, YT is a pain with timestamps on this video for some reason, but these should work, i hope) Edit: yep these work

Here’s some saxophone to put a little spring in your step on a Monday morning.
and one more for good measure in case you aren’t moving yet.
This Wordburglar song was instant enjoyment for me.
