He is a killer drummer and the whole performance is pretty great. Bass guitar is also top here. Glad you like it.

Yes…the bass guitar sounds very good.

Holy shit I love this woman and her music! Goose bumps for days, that’s how I know :joy: Man it is so nice to see/hear Hiromi take that next step in evolving her craft, the Jazz Trio projects were always excellent and fun in its own right but taking her sound to a more orchestral format with the piano quintet has seriously given a breathtaking and profoundly beautiful edge to an already phenomenal musician. AOTY contender right here for me.

I’ve been catching up on the music I missed this year and this one caught me by surprise. First a bit of history, Not Wonk is a three piece rock band hailing from Hokkaido, Japan. They are a band that I just sorta started listening to and continue to check out new releases, and up to now I would describe them as playing very solid indie rock but not something that has me recalling their albums in particular when the opportunity arises. Dimen is their 4th album and I had no reason to think any different of what I was getting into, but oh did they blindside me with this. A pretty big tonal shift from no nonsense indie rock with some post-hardcore elements here and there to some pretty wild experimental rock with hints of neo-psychedelia and jazz rock among other sub genres strewn throughout. This record flows very well and the tracks have this explosive (impactful? energetic?) quality to them that is very engaging which makes them very memorable. Kato’s vocals are some of the biggest highlights in the album, he gets real weird with some of his vocalizations but it just ends up working, i think he might be one of the most unique vocalists I’ve heard recently.
I don’t know exactly what these guys were doing during covid lockdown but whatever it was they need to keep it up. On my radar in a very big way from now on.

Ok, I’m listening to this again so thought I’ll share this, one of my personal favorites that I’ve been enjoying/following for a couple of years now.

Its a brass band but you have probably never heard one like this. The idea grew out of a bet in a Munich pub and it was about a brass band not being able to reproduce complex electronic music. Judge for yourself but in my book they’ve won the bet!

Anyways, search Meute in youtube and you’ll get treated with a bunch of very pleasing and energetic performances.

I got a rec for this album a few weeks back and ever since I have not been able to stop listening, Its not really in my typical wheelhouse and something I would not normally check out at first glance but damn am I glad i got that tip.

From start to finish this is probably my favorite album this year and likely of the past few years. this is a collaboration project so there is a bunch of different styles and sounds incorporated and that is its biggest strength imo, the variation and sheer production quality some of these songs exude is quite impressive and the sound shift keeps the album fresh and going strong with a excellent flow from beginning to end. Different sounds ranging from ambient, experimental, art pop, r&b, hiphop, and alternative rock come together and forms quite a convincing meld of genres ripe for listening.

Thanks @M0N for introducing this to me, I’m enjoying it immensely

Back in like 2002, Incubus was one of my favorite bands. Haven’t listened to their stuff in a while. I’ve been enjoying listening to them on the BF2 > Quicksilver > Abyss Diana V2 today.

They actually have a ton of albums and are still together, though the lineup has changed several times. When bassist George Katunich left in 2003, their stuff wasn’t the same IMO. His funk influenced style is very evident on “Are You In”.

I’m surprised you haven’t come across them, unless you’re just starting out. They’re very popular.

I mainly go to recochoku.jp for any updates/rankings if you want to look more into it. I buy music there too. Only thing is your unlikely to discover any hidden gem artists w/o some of the services.
