Just in case you didn’t know, I believe they will be closed until may 8 because of golden week (japanese holiday)

I actually did know about golden week. I forgot almost all other countries get whole weeks off for fun celebrations.

I will probably put out a WTB for the Norne and see what i can grab used but the Brise is calling me. The other options seem to get up there in price quick and maybe i just go big on this with a known good piece.

@hifiDJ since you were the most recent to purchase, about how long was it from order time to cable arrival?

I can’t speak for their other cables but the one I got for the ie900 is :ok_hand: (after major burn in).

About 3-4 weeks. It did get delayed like 2 days though…

You can also get those adapters if you somehow haven’t thought about that option yet.

That is not bad at all tbh

I could, but the hd800 and a mini xlr are both long connectors so it makes for a goofy long thin connection. Which is ok for most but i have a short neck. Even the pretty compact 3.5mm to senn 2 pin hits my shoulders. It could be good for a short term “how do these match listen” but anything long term would be mehh.

This also touches on the what do i do if i sell the hd800s. I think the Brise has decent resale but can i also convert it .

After selling a few things I decided to not tip toe around it and go for the Brise. I cant find it but M0N’s description in one of the threads nailed what i was looking for. It didnt hurt i got an email response from them right as i finalized a sale.

Not sure how it happened, i just went to my desk and saw this. Still passing audio so it its just the rubber outer.

So I got an HD800S back in april and pretty much left it for two months without listening to it. Then I realized I needed to get adapters for it so fast forward an additional month later (to last night), I finally got around to listening to it…

Excellent headphone indeed!
I may have over exaggerated its staging capabilities in my head. lol
Forgot to keep expectations in check, but it’s still plenty big and wide.

It synergizes really well with the Allnic.
Overall a bit forward, very clean and dynamic.
Real solid pairing!

What I do find interesting is how similar it is to the ie900, rather I find the ie900 similar to the 800s. Haven’t heard anyone suggest this before, so it might be an uncommon take. It’s still a different experience ofc, but in terms of how they present music, I find them more alike than different. More specifically, both seem to be forwardly detailed and energetic while maintaining great balance. It kind of feels like the tuning of the treble and mids were just shoved into the ie900 (just generalizing here). Anyway, I thought it was something worth sharing. Great headphone! Kind of wish the earcups were a bit smaller though.

Did this mod make the sound more “airy” ?

I never posted this but one of the thoughts of the D8KP was that it felt a lot like a HD800s the bass was obviously the biggest difference. I was harsh on my first go around with the HD800s, maybe I just wasn’t ready for it.

I just got my DHC adapters after having gotten the 800s without a cable a few months ago. I’ve spent maybe an hour so far with them, using a DHC Molecule Elite 19 Fusion.

So far, they’re definitely better than I remember from an in-store demo. I didn’t like them then, and still not sure they’re for me, but I can better appreciate them now at least.

They’re very neutral. I don’t get any treble sharpness I often hear about, and while bass is on the light side of neutral, I wouldn’t call it anemic. Tone/timbre is pretty natural for the most part.

They’re not as exaggerated of a stage as I expected/remembered. Orchestral stuff does come across like a moderate to large concert hall, but some instruments (violins primarily) sound very close, while timpany sounds quite far away. Could also be the recording (LOTR OST).

Overall, I’d currently say I probably prefer the tuning of the HD600 and R70X to the HD800s, but need to get some more listening in, and on my other amps (only listened on Crayon so far), to see if I want to hang on to them.

I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts, the 800s for a long time seemed super controversial but then made a bit of a comeback with people around these parts lol. So I’ll be curious to see if maybe it goes back to being like idk for some people and general thoughts.

I think a little bit of that controversy was milder bass and highs that strain. Both imho are from bad source gear pairings. For me I have 1 tube that makes it screech, outside of that it is my most used can. It still has some of it’s trademarks, but neither are a true full negative at this point.

That’s interesting, but I could see the similarities. Though for me the main difference would be overall weight and presentation. The d8kp doesn’t have that “agile” or “light” (can’t think of a better word) feeling the 800s have imo (at least on my chain).

I agree, the chain makes a huge difference. They both have similar capabilities in detail and instrument separation which is where they were most a like.

Definitely a large part of it. I’ve noticed it is quite picky with source. The CMA800R makes it sing, and the Woo Wa8 does an admirable job, but the CMA800R is still the winner for me. The CEntrance hifi-m8 v2 made them sound pretty much how I’ve heard them described on the internet. Very generic sounding.

I’m pretty happy with the HD800s on all of my SS and Tube options. The stage/presentation is quite great for music that can reveal these benefits. In some cases the spacing does feel unnaturally large and I prefer something with a tighter stage width. There are a couple areas in the treble that aren’t the best and the bass impact leaves something to be desired. But I have other cans with incredible bass quantity/quality so I can appreciate what the 800S is capable of.

I find them to be light, comfortable, and quite enjoyable at lower listening levels which is helpful throughout a work day at home office. I haven’t tried them yet with movies and games but I imagine they will excel there.

I think anything recorded in a live venue, church, or hall these are my favorites. I also got them used for a great price so that also influences my opinion; MSRP would probably leave me a bit disappointed…

Good points @Rmsanger.

I do wish the msrp would come down but its the one headphone thats in that niche from Senn. Used is much better.

I haven’t heard a headphone have as transparent layers as the HD800s. I keep going to the thin window drapes reference where you can see through and see under it when it is folded over itself.
