I bought a pair of used countertop 600’s for $40 cash because they were “not working”.
Stock cable was bad. I cherish them.
Best 600 story of all time lol
You’ve got a good amp to plug those HD600 into?
Time will tell!
Outside of the new ones I feel like ive see 2 types
- Semi newer speckle marble with blue
- Older black and white granitish looking.
I dont know what people are refering to with the eggshell or “green”. Well i do know what theyre refering too but like it looks 0% egg or green.
That '97 pair has a well worn headband pad. It’s probably not a coincidence.
You know now you and @Littledrummerboy are going to have to be our forum’s HD600 revision analysis documentation crew.
From what i am already hearing, i honestly may be curious to try and find ones from every revision for fun to try
Darn, I was hoping you were going to say there was no difference to help quelm my ocd from worrying about getting a unicorn hd6xx.
Welp bad for me, great for you.
Maybe i find a way of getting you my (and previously Eskimo’s) hd800s. May need to check those revisions too.
Ill gladly be the certified Sonus Sennheiser revision tester lol
I’m kinda still waiting to hear “actually, I prefer my 6XX to all of these” lol! But yeah, I’m excited to see how the testing goes!
Can already tell you that is not happening lol. This 1997 HD600 is by far the winner already.
Do you have an hd6xx? Is it an early run ireland unit? If not add that to the to test list when i lend you mine.
i do have a 6xx yes, not sure if its a made in Ireland one.
It looks like I have the version 7 ‘corrugated metal mesh’ on the HD600 list that shows the interior driver/filter view. Interesting read with Google translate. Might be cool to hear one of the earlier versions, like the black silk filter and black round ring driver version that’s supposed to be the largest staging and immersive version from the descriptions.
Thanks to @j.fopps I got my hands on my first HD600. While i was hoping he would slip and send me the '97 vintage, luck wasnt on my side this time. It looks like a later revision, most likely what the chinese forum listed as a Luo revision. Though I am not sure what the Luo is.
First impressions are good a little more spaced out and airy compared to the hd6xx. Some of the bass kick is traded for this though. Female vocals, a la Norah Jones, seem less compressed and everything the faintest bit more clear and “correct”.
Not sure if i was expecting exactly this amount of difference or a little more deviation. Instead of dark vs milk chocolate, its like both are dark chocolate and one used 7% more cocoa.
Im going to try using the original cable on both next, the 600 doesnt like the left ultrashort adapter i have, i think the shrink wrap just needs a trim so it can get further in the socket and connect better.
Cant tell you how many times i double checked which on was which before packing it up lol
Like the Scooby Doo episode Which Witch is Which, how do I know what I’ve got?
Mine is speckled, made in Ireland, it has the white silvery mesh and the driver motor winding is clearly visible as reddish copper ring around the center. Not surprisingly all sorts of info on the interwebz not entirely consistent.
I’ve gotten the reference to an old (OG) then a new and then the color change to black but it sounds like there were also minor steps in between.
