RMAF Permanently Shuttered

I was browsing the CANJAM SoCal thread at Head-Fi this morning when I read that RMAF had been canceled. I assumed that meant the obvious–that concerns about COVID had mounted to the point that the show is being postponed again or pushed to next year. Unfortunately, the truth is a lot more sobering:

I attended RMAF 2019 and got to hear Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl on Sonus Faber’s flagship speakers. I got to see Wilson speakers not on the pages of Stereophile. And, of course, there was a solid head-fi presence there as well.

That show was a highlight of my time in this hobby, and I have been looking forward to attending future shows. I never expected the plug would be pulled permanently. I’m gutted.

RIP to one of my favorite US shows, great gear, great people, always fun for both 2ch and personal audio. Sad that they decided to permanently close doors

Can you imagine having a business model where you only produce revenue once per year…and then have to cancel one year?

The hobby feels like an M C Escher drawing when it comes to attracting new ears.

Denver is also a real fun city. You can go to a festival, go see some sports, go to a few breweries, and all do it in a walk.

I have no doubt there will be a successor when things stabilize further. The question is where and when (hopefully in a more accessible city to international travellers)
