No I’m saying if you have two high powered amps it might be an issue. If you want to run both at the same time.
The Pacific uses more power than the WA33, no DAC you are likely to use will be close to that.
When I had the LAu and the WA33, both 9W+ amps I couldn’t run both at the same time with a DAC and Streamer.
Get a Killawatt and figure out what you need, but pretty much any reasonable headphone setup is fine with a P3.
Yes that correct, my number was wrong, the P5 I bought used wouldn’t put out more that 30V, so I never really got to use it. But I thought I remembered looking up the rating.
It looks like the p5 power equivalent now is the p12.
My thought was to buy one and use it now on the headphone chain but to move it to the 2 ch set up whenever that becomes real.
I could buy one p3 now, then another down the road and i should be good. But also for a little more you get much more from a single p12. Im just not at that point yet so probably best to hold off.
@Polygonhell do you know what your pacific pulls by itself? I will probably buy a killawatt as i have a few uses for it and i can probably test ths hegel easily, but my lampi is in storage and would be a much bigger pia
Depends on the tubes between 125W and >150W.
The WA33 is ~125W, both are continuous, same with no sound coming out as with volume at maximum.
Almost anything else you use for headphones will be a lot less most DAC’s will be <50W.
I’ve considered upgrading to a P12, to give me options, but the P3 is fine even with those 2 connected.
Thinking about picking up a P3 as well. Would rather have a P15 but I can’t justify that for now. As far as I know P12 is the only one of the current models with fans.
Voltage in my house seems to fluctuate so I’m curious about the effect of a powerplant on my system vs my current passive conditioner, the Puritan PSM156. Probably will keep just one of them.
I have a P3 and a Core Power Deep Core 1800 and Equi Core 1000 and I think the Core Power gear is better value, given they’re about the same price.
I’m not saying one is better than the other as they’re comparable in performance when it comes to power conditioning. But in addition to price, the Equi Core can handle 1000 watts vs the PS3’s 300. The Deep Core can handle 1800 watts and has 2 outlets so I have the PS3 plugged into that too. The PS3 has been relegated to powered monitors, sub and linear power supplies and I use the Equi Core 1000 for my DAC and amps.
The Core Power pricing on Underwood Hi Fi’s website is a bit confusing, and if you call them directly, you can get a lower than advertised price. They’ll offer you a bundle price of about $1800 for the Deep Core and Equi Core 1000 or $2500 if you get the Equi Core 1800 instead of the 1000.
@PaisleyUnderground any thoughts on this power cable? I just put in an order for the P3 in the August sale. I don’t have any aftermarket cables in my chain but figured the first one to the wall could be a good start
It’s great that they’re showing which off the shelf cable they’re using. I just ordered some Belden 83803 to make a cable for my sub as I needed a longer run for placement flexibility.
Both, I got one for the P3 and then a pair for my mono amps. Cheaped out on completing the loom and buying two more for my streamer and PreAmp but i’ll come back around for those too.
If you liked them, next time you can aim for their baseline PowerChord. If like those too, Audience has an upgrade program with that line. I ended up with a few PowerChord SEi for cheaper than their used prices with this method.
I will say that power cables are by far the easiest cables to get premium vendor results in the DIY cable space. I say this with confidence especially after deconstructing some premium AC power cables.
