Those are plugged in 24/7, i just try to do my best to look ahead and unplug or power it off. Unfortunately cant cover all scenarios. The mojo is plugged into the wall, the antipodes is connected to a nicer computer surge protector.
This is what I have saved on my hifishark search as it is recommended by Antipodes. They do not come up often, and when they do they go quick. Anything under $1500 is instantly sold.
I know the PP is popular here but the 3 is too small and it is a big jump to the next sizes.
Has anyone directly compared the Powerplants to the Puritan units? Just curious if one of them is better, or if they are of similar caliber.
Thanks
I like my Ansuz Mainz. This is what made me move away from the PSA Regenerator in the first place.
A lot of ways to skin the cat in how the AC power is treated. Experimentation is going to be the only way to really see which way give you the most benefit with the least compromise.
You’ve lucked out @Camus in being able to try something first hand and see benefits. I’m happy with my Richard Gray’s Power Company, it’s yet another of these non “traditional” conditioners, transformers etc.
I’ve also gotten worthwhile perceptible improvement with relatively inexpensive ifi AC purifiers at key points.
Just try stuff out! I’d also say that if one P3 isn’t enough horsepower, just get two.
A second Power Cable for that second P3 ![]()
Now that is some interesting technology which is far beyond my understanding, and pricey!
Absolutely lucky, good friend let me borrow it as I have been waffling on a Powerplant for quite some time now.
I am going for the next model up, this one has plenty of capability and horsepower for a headphone only setup, with an integrated amp rated at 325 watts consumption the PP3 is not the right solution, doesn’t help that I have too much gear and need at least 8 outlets too. Comfortably would have 10-12 outlets, however that Powerplant is $10k!!
I’ve been keeping an eye out for them too, never seen it that low! Think $1750 may be the lowest I’ve come across, and that goes quick!
There’s three up now for like $1850~$1899 one of which is from a dealer but it’s been sitting for a couple of months. They all include a Puritan power cable, does it come with a power cable or is that extra?
Send them an offer for $1700 and they’ll come back with $1750.
I see them pop up, the auckland closes stuff. I believe that is a dealer in NZ. Have to make sure it is also US outlets and voltage. It comes with a nice power chord but they offer higher tier ones as well.
I have had the P15 for a few days now and having 10 outlets for my gear is underrated. My last conditioner only had 8 so there was decision on which component would be rotated in and out. Two extra helps more than it seems!
The front screen meters show some geeky information like THD In/Out, Power Consumption, and Improvement Factor. The improvement factor has me scratching my head, not seen it go past 10X
These screens can be accessed from an online portal, where it shows historical data for those who want to dig into the numbers.
I also like being able to access some of the zone settings from there too, rather than do it on the touch screen.
Was it worth the price, for me it was because as I mentioned before the power where I live is absolute crap. Could I have gone with something else, probably but being able to demo without buying was a dealbreaker for me.
@driftingbunnies Did you have any commentary, or follow up questions about the Powerplant? From your post in the other thread you seemed genuinely curious, want to make sure I can be helpful.
For any of you who have or had a P3, like @Camus, a few questions if you don’t mind…
I’m thinking about getting one of the refurbs that PS Audio is selling. At $1,500 that puts it in my price range, is there any reason not to get it refurbished? IDK if these are returns or trade-ins, but I’m pretty certain they’ll have been checked out thoroughly but what do I know…
Also, how hot does it run? They say to give it its own shelf or space in a rack, but it would be far more convenient for me to stack something on top of it. I would use risers under the piece on top, but obviously don’t want to cook anything.
This thread’s been dormant for a while, any further thoughts from anyone? Looks like you upgraded @Camus, but in hindsight you still feel positive towards P3?
Thank you all!

I have a P3. I don’t see any reason not to get a refurb as long as they offer returns. I’d check for transformer hum. I haven’t noticed mine being hot, but it is on the bottom shelf of my rack on it’s own. I also put larger feed under it so it gets increased airflow underneath but it’s not even warm to the touch. I’m only using it with HP stuff and I’m sure if it’s different for higher current draw stuff.
I think, unfortunately, you have to just work through power stuff empirically, meaning you just have to try it and see. I’ve tried the Puritan, but didn’t like it as much in my system as the P3 and felt it restricted soundstage a bit and brought some harshness, but it could be I was more sensitive to that on headphones than someone would be on speakers. I did have a slight preference for the Shunyata Gemini 8 I had on audition, but I already owned the P3 and I didn’t feel like going through the hassle of selling it, etc etc.
There are really only two drawbacks I see to the P3, having owned one for over a year, at least for low power headphone stuff.
- The outlets aren’t filtered from each-other so if you plug in a noisy component to it…then you’ve just polluted everything on that side of it
- It’s an active device so it’s “on” and running all the time and it has the potential to wear out at some point.
That said, I’ve been happy with mine.
That’s a good price, imho worth trying at that price, you’ll be able to flip it for not much loss if you don’t keep it long term. My experience has been that Power Plants don’t run that hot on headphone systems, just not that much power consumption. As long as you have a few inches above it for airflow (and don’t set it on a carpeted floor) I would be surprised if there was any heat issue at all.
Experiences in power plant impacting sound quality vary around this forum. But for me the P3 was good, and now I have the P12 which has been good as well.
I think it’s a good price. I always compare a refurbished or used PS Audio price to a new model after trading something in. If they’re close, I’d rather get the full warranty of the new model by trading in some unused electronics.
In your case, the refurbished model is a lot less than the post-trade in price, so it looks like a bargain.
Mine hardly even gets warm but it’s on its own shelf, with plenty of ventilation.
Just don’t block the vents on top, and your probably fine, mine gets warm, not hot.
I do feel positive toward the P3 and the reasons I went with a P15 was due to the higher number of outlets and also the jump to 1500 VA output for my 2 channel gear. I tried to convince my buddy who let me borrow it long term to let me buy the P3 so I can use it strictly for my digital components. I have pretty crap power entering my home so the proportion of improvement was a big swing, where for others with cleaner power that swing may not be as significant.
It comes down to the quality of the power piped into your house, and if you can install a dedicated line to keep the appliances, lights, etc that like to mix into the electrical environment at bay. Living in a condo, my options are limited so the PowerPlant line made the most sense over other products which filter/condition.
The P3 never ran too hot, yet I would still not want to stack other gear on top of it for fear of proximity interference. I had it on the floor (not carpet, wood) , as I have the much larger and hotter P15. If I could get it further away from my gear I would as it also allows for more organized/neatly arranged power cable separation from each component. Whereas stacked at the bottom you will have power cables inadvertently in close proximity to your signal cables, and as some have chimed in it could hum indicating there is vibration going on.
