Thread for Polk speakers
A few years back, I think Klipsch RP600m and ELAC always received the de facto blanket recommendation for a beginning set. ELAC plays it safe, especially with their entry lines and Klipsch had a punchy and fun speaker.
I personally would recommend the Polk line first, at least for my tastes. I would say it requires more juice to run them, but I personally kept my Reserve line over the RP600m when I was demoing the two. I also still use a set of LSiM as well.
Any thoughts on the R700? Seems to get good praise from reviewers
I don’t have any experience with their floor standers and never had the desire to try. I would have other models in mind if I wanted something that took more vertical-speaker real-estate. With that being said, my experience with the R100 was a pleasant surprise and I assume it would probably perform well. I know the Polk line goes on sale often enough too.
what others models are you thinking of?
If I get a floorstander, I think Spatials are near the top of my list.
Entirely different budget lol
@orrman The 2k floor stander market is flooded but I think the R700 is interesting based on internet feedback. It would near or at the top of the my list if I were looking.
It’s old guard, but I bet you can get LSiM 707 for cheappppp now. I still enjoy my 703 today.
Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that I am impressed with the R-series. Safe pick and a great performer.
for that price might as well get my dream Devore Fidelity o/Baby
The Polk LSiM 703 is a really nice bookshelf speaker, especially at the reduced prices I have seen them go for. If you happen to run across a pair, especially used and happen to need a pair of general purpose speakers, maybe to use with a TV, I would be remiss in not recommending them. I set up a pair w/ a relatively inexpensive set-up, using pieces that were laying around collecting dust and I’m enjoying the hell out of them watching some of my favorite movies on Netflix and Amazon. 2 channel, nothing extra, great center imaging, plenty of bass to fill a small room and not leave me lacking, yes a subwoofer would add that rumble factor and i highly recommend it, but if funds are low…don’t stress it these hold their own nicely.
I use mine for the same reason. Awesome TV L/Rs and will play some music quite nicely once in a while.
They are a bit thick on the bottom end, thus not my favorite for the softer genre’s i prefer. But damned if i don’t love them on the tv, or listening to rap, pop, hip-hop, edm and stuff that needs some boom🤗
