Personal top 5 albums of 2022

My top five albums of 2022:

  1. “Cruel Country” – Wilco. Their best record in 15 years.
  2. “Dripfield” – Goose. A jam band with melody and true craftsmanship in the the studio.
  3. “American Heartbreak” – Zach Bryan. Masterful REAL country triple album, not the shit from Nashville infecting us daily.
  4. “Painless” – Nilufer Yanya. Great R&B with pop and electronic sensibilities.
  5. “Weather Alive” – Beth Orton. She returns to her moody, atmospheric best.

Nice shout on the Billy Strings album. Didn’t make my top five but probably my top 10!

Likely in order that I have listened to the most last year:

Hmmmm i don’t know if i agree with this one lol. DOn’t get me wrong, the album was pretty solid and the “I wish I knew” track was awesome! But i didn’t vibe as much with it as the first album. And this one was pretty graphic lol.

Not 2022 but if looking for the house black keys sound here is a list that is a decent starting point:

The Arcs - Yours, Dreamily
Black pistol fire - don’t wake the riot
Black pistol fire - self titled
Dan Auerbach - keep it hid
Patrick Sweany - close to the floor
Radio Moscow - brain cycles
The record company - play loud
The dead weather - dodge and burn
The dead weather - sea of cowards
Reginwolf - hear me out
Home wrecker - little hurricane

If looking for more of the Mississippi delta blues I can give that too.

Awesome, thanks! This is a good starting point. I like blues but kinda new to this type of blues/black keys sound. Roon suggestions weren’t really doing it for me but I’ll check these out.

Here’s a solid list to start with… Unfortunately most of the “best” early stuff was recorded like crap. You can listen to and appreciate the talent and then just get frustrated that no decent recording studios did these man justice. Dozens of blues artists that produced incredible material but no decent recordings were ever made.

RL Burnside – Too Bad Jim
RL Burnside - Mr Wizard
RL Bunside – A Ass Pocket of Whiskey
Junior Kimbrough – Sad Days Lonely Nights
Junior Kimbrough – Most Things Haven’t Worked Out
Junior Kimbrough – Do the Rump
Muddy Water – Folk Singer
T-Model Ford – Bad Man
Fred McDowell – Mississippi Fred McDowell
Howlin Wolf – Spoonful
Son House – The Original Delta Blues
John lee hooker - whiskey and wimmin
North Mississippi Allstars - World Boogie Is Coming

Ive been listening to de todas Las Flores for like a month an incredible album sucks I discovered late last year it’s a great treat through hifi systems

I’m a fan of blatant and graphic depictions of people’s experiences even if it’s an alternative lifestyle or preferences to myself as that just helps normalize alternative experiences. I will say the reason it didn’t make too 5 is because I liked his older work a little more but this was considered as it just had bangers and I also just appreciate it for blowing him up.

I don’t know about top five but these are probably my 5 most listened to albums from 2022, there so many more that were really great… It’s too hard to just pick 5 but I’m satisfied with these

Having a hard time deciding on the 5th but these are 4 that I listened to a lot this year:

My first exposure to “old” electronic music. Lots of great tracks that get my head bobbing and feet tapping.

This one is not a genre I expected to enjoy. It’s basically jazz but has some electronic elements. But I got hooked on the songs especially with vocals by Yukimi Nagano.

Stumbled upon this and realized it had a bunch of songs from my childhood. Not the best recording, but it’s been very enjoyable hearing these songs again.

Probably my most listened to electronic album of the year. Used a few of the tracks for comparing bass amongst my headphones.

Some artists that I enjoyed a lot this year were Logic, Mac Miller, Eminem, Prequell, Lizzie McAlpine, Cat Clyde, Tool, and KAS:ST.

I would add Deer Tick and The Wanton Bishops to the same black keys fun vibe.

They are my friends but I will not stop shilling them as I listen to them daily.
Moon Tooth - Phototroph

And I just picked up this, so far so good.
Cave In - Heavy Pendulum

Sticking to 2022 releases I think thats about all I have.

I did dive into some game soundtracks but those are all older outside of Diretide. My god does that gothic electronic opera inspire
