Mass Kobo thread, 248 / 433 / 394 / 465

Yoooooooooooooo it’s such a good no frills pairup for the price lol

Congrats im glad you liked them, im sure they rock.

I was actually also going for the 433 but because I dont know how to deal with japanese customs/duties, taxes put the fear of god in me. My 248 shouldnt take long to arrive.

Maaaaan, the gilmore lite was so lackluster for its used priced, then I heard the rebel amp and I was like; WTF is wrong with these amplifier designers.

Omg I didnt even know this was a thing, I mean I knew the blue hawaii forever but always thought that was legit based on comments.

They made me straight up dont want to try stats at all until I can audition which hasnt happened.

Fine for it’s time, but specific for synergy, and questionable value

It’s all people talk about, the bhse, the carbon, the kgsshv, kgst, and so on. Talk about anything else and you’ll get dogpiled on about anything that’s not a Gilmore or mjolnir design is shit and nothing more. I have a ton to say/complain about with the community around estats but not going to put this thread off topic anymore lol

You don’t have the Oor anymore to directly compare the two, right?

Nope sorry. Only what you see on the rack (and a Berkeley Reference 2 that’s in a box).

That’s what I thought. I’m somewhat curious how the two compare.

I’m sure this answer is going to surprise you but from what I know from others - it depends on your headphones, DAC and preferences

I was assuming it was probably more of a side-grade than anything else, given it’s price. But since I daily the Newtopia, it seems to be a reasonable consideration.

I’d personally put the 433 a tier above the oor + hypsos for sure, but I also feel like they favor very different chains and priorities

In what ways?

The ferrum + oor is a lot more macro focus and has slam and control over harder to drive cans that the mk just really doesn’t, it’s also more width than depth focused in presentation, and I’d actually say it’s also smoother in general (depending on where you set the voltage). I think if you were running cans like the susvara, 1266, he6, lcd 4, etc you’d be much better off with the ferrum, same if I was running a more sort of exaggerated dac as well, I think that suits the ferrum better. The 433 while also very good with a lot of planar it really kinda takes off with both lower and higher impedance dynamics imo, and it’s a more intimate, aggressive, and I’d say generally more technically proficient focus that’s going to be a lot more honest than the oor is imo. Dac pairing I’d likely focus on pairing more with something that’s more organic and actually a slight bit warmer leaning (or something also more brutally honest if you wanted to double down), where with the oor I think it’s a bit more forgiving in pairing

To me the oor more feels like a heavier handed swiss army knife that can pull of a lot of cans decently but not amazingly, whereas the mk is a more purpose built amp with higher capabilities but less forgiving with synergy and use case

So with the d1-unity & Utopia, I may really be better off with the 433 then.

I’d absolutely say so

We’ll see how things shape out with this AIC-10 first. MusicTeck has the 433 available for sale. So if the AIC-10 sells to someone else, or after I get it I can sell the Oor&Hypsos get the 433 as well.

If you’re getting AIC you really don’t need 433 or Oor…

Not for music enjoyment I’d think. But the AIC-10 is still a tube amp, so it’s not something you want to leave on 24/7, right? And I do want to keep at least one good SS amp on hand.

I’d recommend you don’t make any plans to what happens after you buy AIC before you hear it, it might change how you think about everything lol

I don’t keep it on 24/7, it warms up and sounds best after 45-60min but sounds good also at minute zero

It’s hard to listen to other things when you get used to its level of performance, at least for me

Now why do you have to go and say things like that, lol?

Don’t worry you don’t miss other things  (unless you’re curious and dumb to try more things like me)
