LB-acoustics MYSPHERE 3.1/3.2

It’s a learning experience, when you get it “right” they are surprisingly secure, though I could see if your head were overly small there could be an issue.
I liken putting them on to one of those sliding block puzzles where at the right angle everything just magically fits together. You don’t really stretch the headband at all when you put them on “correctly”.

Two things that helped me.

  1. Realize that the wings will touch your ears, especially at the front, you have to get used to that.
  2. Disconnect the cable and put them on using a mirror, so you can compare how your wearing them to the illustration in the manual.

I do wish the headband were more conventional, but once you get used to it, it’s actually no offensive, and can be reasonably comfortable.

Day 3:

Okay, so the day isn’t over yet, but today has been a quite a journey, so let’s write some stuff up. First off, I owe @Polygonhell a HUGE thank you for your advice on wearing the MYSPHERE, you definitely fixed me. Specifically this comment about the wings touching the front of your ears…

…made me realize that I was wearing the MYSPHERE too far forward on my head. I had originally had the bottom of the headband basically tucked behind my ears, and yeah, moving it back that half an inch or however much further back made such a big difference.

First off, it’s now behind the frames of my glasses so I can wear my glasses and the MYSPHERE at the same time without hurting my head. It’s not about to fall off of my head anymore and I’m getting much more usable range in terms of being able to move the wings in and out while still having the headphone sound good. And having the driver better aligned with my ear also means the headphone doesn’t need quite as much gain. So yeah, it took three days, but I’m finally wearing this in a way where I could imagine wearing it on a regular basis.

Now backing up a bit, during my previous email exchanges with LB-acoustics, Heinz at one point said:

Did you ask Jack Wu already? He should be able to make a very good offer for a used but refurnished MYSPHERE 3.1

So now that I was finally in a good place with the MYSPHERE and I could actually see myself owning one, I reached out to Woo Audio to see if they could give me a deal on a refurbished MYSPHERE. Woo Audio responded saying that they could offer me a refurbed MYSPHERE for $2500 including free shipping, which seemed like a pretty great price, so yeah… I bought a refurbished MYSPHERE 3.1 today!

And of course, I made sure to post in the deals thread in case any other forum friends wanted to get in on it.

Seriously @Polygonhell, thanks so much for the tips on wearing this thing, it helped a lot.

Also, I’m going to stop posting daily updates now that I’m not trying to evaluate whether or not I’m going to buy the MYSPHERE at the end of my demo.

P.S. Tried again with Ellen just to double-check. Yeah no, still doesn’t work on small heads.

Hello again!

Okay, so I already bought a refurbished MYSPHERE 3.1 from Woo, but Heinz is understandably still trying to sell me the unit that he sent me to demo (it obviously sucks to have to send it back with customs and international shipping and such).

Rather than turn down their offer, I wanted to double-check if anyone here in the forums would be interested in buying my demo unit! It’s basically a completely brand new MYSPHERE 3.1 (it’s been lightly used for literally just one week) w/ bass frames and an XLR cable and a 3-year warranty for, let’s say, $3350 all-in.

If you’re interested, please let me know in the next day or two!

Does anyone have thoughts/advice for using a sub with the MYSPHERE? I don’t know much about subs, so on my own, I’d probably grab an SB-2000 or something and connect it to the pre-out of my amp, but I’d love to hear if anyone thinks there are subs that pair particularly well, or even if anyone has general thoughts on making a sub setup work well (or if it’s just totally not worth it, lol).

M0N approves and I got @sa11297 to do it and he loves it as well. I believe he has a Rythmik F12.

You can use a sub and it can be really fun yes (although might as well just listen to speakers at that point lol), but you can integrate a sub with some tuning and the right equipment. In order to use a sub, you would either need an amp with a built in preamp that also outputs the preamp at the same time as headphone output (uncommon), or you would need a preamp or volume controlled dac in front of your headphone amp. Placement wise you could experiment with loading it like you would normally in a room or position in different ways. LPF wise I’d likely not have it doing too much outside of subbass, so I’d likely put it at more around 60hz or at least under 80hz since the mysphere still does solid work in that range so you don’t want to have the sub infringe on that imo. You will want to adjust levels on the sub as well to match the volume with the headphones (or not exactly match, but get the levels correct to where one doesn’t overpower the other). Personally I’ve only tried the sub tricks when driving the mysphere off my main 2ch which currently uses dual jl fathom f113v2 and it sounded pretty enjoyable, and in the past I did try it with my dual rythmik f25 but I didn’t enjoy that setup as much (mainly because I only had the 3.2 at the time and the 3.1 has much better synergy with the ac gear than the 3.2)

There is a new amp from BURSON the Soloist 3X GT.
THis great amp pairs very well with the MYSPHERE 3.2 and offer a separte Sub-Woofer output channel…
b.t.w. - this feature was requested by me :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh sweet, didn’t know the gt had a subwoofer output, that’s pretty handy. The soloist 3xp already did a pretty solid job, I’d be very curious to see how far it’s taken in the GT model

Also welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum! I’m pretty curious on your thoughts on the GT. I’d appreciate any impressions you might have on the burson thread if you’re able to.

I had a hunch the new Burson would suit the MyShpere. It’s nice to see manufacturers working together, even if it’s an informal request. Very cool.

@Hrklg01
Do you have a preferred setup for Mysphere 3.1 and/or 3.2, assuming cost is no object?
Also, do you have any recommended aftermarket cables, or prefer the stock cable?

My personal prefered setup is MYSPHERE 3.2 - bass pads - Paltauf HPA100

So, the 3.2s I was lent are going out on my way home from work. Unfortunately, I just dont realy “get” the myspheres. I wasnt using them on the best system (sagra/Spring3 → 13R/forge and p6p->428), but it wasn’t even a “I get why people like these but they arent for me” and instead a “these just realy dont sound how people seem to explain them”. Ultimately the stage presented and was sized similar to normal headphones if flaps were under 1/2 way out and still a bit smaller than HD800s if all the way out with the trade off of less sub-bass. They were certainly “good” but im yet to try anything north of a 3k RRP that isnt tbh. Maybe I never got fit, maybe the source gear was the issue. No idea, but figured I would just post my short experiences.

More than likely a combination of fit and source gear. I’ve heard 2 different 3.2 and currently have a 3.1 in on loan and I have found that they are extremely source picky, second only to the utopia imo. The fit and placement of the frames relative to your ear can also make or break the overall sound and experience

I personally find them to be very unique and unlike any other headphone I’ve heard but not something that I’m particularly chomping at the bit to own. But I’m extremely picky about comfort and fit and I’m sure that plays a big role in my overall bias and experience lol. If mysphere can ever find a way to do a revision with a more normal/comfy fit I could definitely see myself picking one up.

Also goes without saying but if you are looking for amazing subbass these are not the phones for you lol

Homestly, im realy not. Hd800s and LCD-R have plenty for me. I was just getting like a high pass with the mysphere where I got absalutely nothing under like 80hz.

That said, given i just don’t realy have any chance to use mysphere in my daily life im not rraly interested in pursuing them further. If I could use at work I would probabaly get a set to play with longer.

And this is what realy gets me. Cause while they were fine headphones, to me, they just were headphones. Nothing real special or stand out that they did well

My review is post 2, your clearly listening very differently than I do, with the Bass frames I actually think the 3.1’s are slightly Bass forwards (they have no sub Bass worth mentioning though).
To me they present like near field speakers, that’s not to say they stage like speakers, but rather the character of the sound reminds me of it.
To try and describe that, near field speakers have a very specific sound character that’s different to mid or far field listening, almost all the sound you get is directly from the driver rather than through the room, headphones have a different character again because of the way the sound interacts with the cups.

As Towa says they are extremely picky on source gear.

There are lots of options out there, and I appreciate you posting your experience, because we don’t all look for the same thing. If they aren’t for you just move on.
