Lampizator dac thread, Amber / Baltic / Atlantic / Golden / Pacific / Horizon

It also begs the question, where is the extra information coming from! Did they play any 16/44 source files?

Full Lamm Reference setup.
Server: Taiko Extreme
He was going through Lamm Reference 2 or 1 preamp. I forget their models.
He did direct as well, but both sounded good. He prefers the sound and the convenience of the preamp.

Both streaming and offline 16/44

Which actually surprises me.
Even with my setup that resolves much less than his, I can definitely hear differences between offline and streaming, or 16 vs. DSD

Now for the important question, did anyone there open up their checkbook? If you’re going to be a playa you gotta show up, and that was the place to show up! lol

I’m jelly man, congrats on the experience.

Some people were definitely discussing a demo with the NA distributor. Lukas kept hands-off, which was a good call.
I actually think there were a few potential sales of Taiko Extremes though :eyes:

One lesson that I am thankful for though.

That system was very seductive and stupidly realistic, but I wasn’t seduced. I didn’t feel like I needed this thing. It has made me concluded that I love my system. It is good enough; it is superb. I love its sound and listening/dancing casually with my gf when the opportunity arises. I don’t need a pie in the sky man-cave. So… it was nice to know what the apex is like and be okay with not caring.

P.S. I strangely felt out of place being the only listener there without a Pacific, lol…

@M0N
Random thought: when you turn on the Horizon, the Nixie tubes countdown the warm up period. It’s a nice + badass touch.

Ok yeah that’s pretty awesome lol

That’s very awesome. I love it.

How long do they allow?

It is a 30 second countdown/warm up

@Veritas were Rob and Fred from Lampi NA there? No wonder my order has gone nowhere the past 3 weeks. Everyone from both sides is out in Cali and Florida dealing with shows and pushing the Horizon😡

The Horizon is just 4 Baltics stitched together with angel tears.

There really must be some magic in there somewhere. The piece opened up looks like a dual cpu server mobo with some things separated into different compliments. It looks PC enough i would think there would be noise concerns but heck what do i know.

Yes, it felt like an all-hands on deck event. I’m sure they sold a few horizons at the event. I mean, the confidence was there for Lukas to fly all the way out here to do a demo/seminar for a few days. Lukas didn’t push any sales, but I know he knew some would happen.

I took a long hard look at the pictures as well.

If nothing else it validates my effort to pimp the hell out of my NUC. lol I’ll describe the work undertaken in the Roon thread.

I assume the Pacific was balanced?
I prefer the added control the Pacific has with the 242’s, but you do lose some microdetail and Stage size. I know @M0N prefers the PX25’s.
What tubes were in the Horizon?

It was Kr kt88 if i remember correctly. Alternative was 6900 Russian ones. I don’t remember which

People seem to really love the KT66, 77, 88 variants on lampis

Decided to try changing tubes today in my Amber 3 and made some interesting discoveries.

I first tried changing out the rectifier with my Bendix 5852 and the Philips 5963 with my radiotechnique 12au7. The first thing I noticed was a treble roll-off and increased mid presence. Vocals were more pronounced and forward. Another thing I noticed was an increased sense of space. But because of the detail hit that it took I decided to try changing the tubes again.

This time I kept the Bendix 5852 and just changed the 12au7 back to the stock Philips 5963 (so the other 2 tubes are stock just the Bendix 5892 is different). Back came the detail I was missing with the radiotechnique. But it also kept the increase of space I had with the previous pairing. This tells me that the Bendix is giving me that space. The only downside with this pairing is a slight decrease in bass depth that I can only assume is due to the Bendix. Though maybe given some time to burn in it may come back. We’ll see, but I like the pairing as it is now and will update my thoughts here should anything change over time.
