Figured it would be good to have a owners thread since I believe there are several of us here who own or has owned a lampi.
As for me I’m still enamored with my Amber 3 even after more than a year since purchasing, Deep solid black backgound with the most natural organic timbre I’ve heard, superb layering of instruments with breathtaking dynamics and added texture to notes. All in a slightly warm tilted neutral sound that pairs excellently with most amps that I have tried it with so far.
Upgrading to a Baltic 3 is in my plans for the near future but not out of any fault to the amber. I’m just being difficult because I want to more easily tube roll as well as wanting more features that the B3 provides such as the included fully balanced dac and the extra digital inputs that my amber doesn’t have. Also Want to find out if i can talk them into adding the preamp as well.
So I have heard he has done a few with a preamp for some people over on what’s best forum. However I am pretty sure they might have had previous history with Lukasz beforehand though so I’m not sure how hard it would be to talk him into it for a rando like me
Ok first post in this forum and this thread is worthwhile to me. The Amber 3 was a very worthwhile purchase. I enjoy everything it does in my main 2 channel set-up. I like the fact that the tubes are a straightforward swap out and that it is not meant for rolling. I also think it is a good price match relative to what equipment it is mated to on my rack.
I keep looking at higher tier DAC’s but currently have no incentive or inclination to make a move on this piece.
I have not tried it elsewhere yet on other equipment, eventually some day I’ll play with it more but currently the plan is for it to stay put. That’s the biggest compliment I can offer up to a piece of gear.
I guess I’m the new kid on the block with this DAC and it’s an absolute beauty. Big stage, excellent timbre and unforced resolution are the things I’ve noticed with my limited time with the Amber 3. Where the Yggy A2 I found to be a great step up from the Bifrost 2 while retaining and further capitalizing on what makes the Bifrost 2 great, I see the Amber 3 as an excellent choice further along this same path. I’m positive I’ll have more to say in the upcoming weeks but for now I’m just happy to be among the Lampi owners in the forum.
LampizatOr fanboy checking in.
Amber 3 was certainly one of my mind-blowing acquisitions. It was so much better than the BF2 and as much as I thought it couldn’t get that much better. Golden Gate seemed to take all of those qualities to the next level.
Both. I’m also mostly headphones and they can benefit greatly from from a dac in this tier. I actually think the amber in particular is a pretty great stopping point as far as headphone setups go, if you wanted it to be.
You can definitely pull more out of headphones with the golden gates and pacific dacs out there and there are people here who can attest to the merits of that, but I feel that the performance level of the amber is probably enough for most headphone rigs. At least that’s how i feel at this point in time, I’m saying all this but i do have plans to upgrade even farther up the lampi chain because I’m mental and need to know, lol
Admittedly I can’t say it’s actually worthwhile to go to the pacific with any headphones I have, from a value perspective. Can you hear the difference? For sure. Is it fully worth the cost extra over a gg 2? For the mass mass majority of people that’s going to be a no. So the max I’d realistically suggest for a top top tier headphone setup would be the gg2 if you wanted to keep it reasonable. The best bang for buck likely lies on the baltic 3 or amber 3 for most. But at times it can be worth taking the step up to the gg (or atlantic) depending on the headphone rig.
