KOSS ESP/95X vs STAX SR-007

Obviously I might get flammed for this but I honestly think that the KOSS ESP/95X compete pretty well with the STAX SR-007. While the STAX are clearly better in the bass, I do actually think the KOSS beats the STAX in Imaging and vocals, other than imaging and vocals, I would say the STAX win everywhere else. The type of Imaging I am talking about where I think the KOSS is better at is if something is at 8 O’Clock behind you with the KOSS it sounds like it is really there, while with the STAX it is more vague, like it could be 8 O’Clock but it could also be 9 or 7. Opinions please, I am just impressed that the $450 KOSS can even compete with the STAX.

The koss esp/95x seems pretty dope, i hope to get one in the future! How do you find its treble btw? I think i had heard e-stats typically have brighter treble :eyes:

I do think the koss do sound more grand and might have potentially more holographic spatial recreation, but from my experience the 007 did have sharper imaging. No comment on vocals since I don’t care about those lol. I do think your 007 are limited by the energizer they are being run on which might handicap their potential performance, but you do mention they are pretty much above in most other areas, I think with a source upgrade you might see the 007 take off more

I really liked the ESP/95X. It did a lot more right than wrong, imo.

I also hear that it takes well to EQ, though I didn’t try that when I had them on loan. Bass aside, I think it’s a good value. Supposedly it’s even better with a good energizer.

It’s not too much to try as a blind-buy, but it’s usually out of stock which is a good indicator of what they provide.

Might be worth a shot.
