oh wow i just realized the second song is fron Nuest! I had only seen them a bit when the whole produce 101 thing happened. Thanks for sharing the 3rd song in particular B.A.P 하지마 is great! Never heard of em. Also im the biggest fan in the world of Bol4 so i knew that one haha and last but not least last song was surprising lol. expected hard core rock or at least something like black veil brides type of stuff but was fairly pop romance type of vibe
I kinda getcha there, wasn’t a fan of super old stuff. I think my favorite generation was really around the 2014 area as well.
I feel like while the West more-or-less split off from the saccharine, melodic type of pop really dominant in the '80s ~ mid-'00s, a lot of East Asia just kept rolling with it. If I recall, most South Korean music was mostly government-vetted (centered around ballads/folk) up until either the late '80s or early '90s, so that’s why K-pop predominantly followed the rest of East Asia and Western groups.
I remember the popularity of mandopop with the Taiwanese Wave (early-2000s) before the Hallyu Wave was a thing, and the musical influences were pretty similar there, too.
Haha, it’s funny you mention that (3:45):
There was a period of K-pop from 1st to early 2nd gen that had loud, loosely Japanese Visual Kei inspired aesthetics. A lot of the 90s stuff was powerful anti-government themed, so it lent to their intent of rebelliousness. Their look was meant to resemble that. H.O.T was another group from late 1st gen that did that:
I think slowly since asap they have been going kinda this direction. Instead of having one catchy chorus it’s like a weird mix of vocals and weird beat lol. It’s getting almost less and less chorus-esque haha. Still good stuff, I’ll be curious about the rest of the songs in the mini album once Its ready for pickup.
Actually yeah its kind of a big conversation point in kpop too lol. 4th generation are groups like izone, itzy and trying to remember who else is out there. It gets harder and harder to categorize tho lol
Lol. Hmmmm can’t really say I see it, but I can at least say I do like me some Britney spears songs. Toxic in particular was good growing up with
Also honestly not sure how you got the name so far off but I’m even more confused how Google hit it right on the spot with your version of the name LOL
It’s the angsty female vocal leading half the words with vocal fry, and the underlying beat…the stuff on top is just a change of garnish. It’s also really just like maybe the first 30 seconds or so.
Honestly not sure how I came up with such a wrong name, even if somewhat interchangeable. Clearly not focused today.
Throwback to one of my favorite indie love songs. Sweet lovely voice and cute instrumentals. Also fan of the recording, nothing particularly fancy but simply nice just like the song itself.
Translation of song name (취미는 사랑) would be something like “My hobby is love” if anyone is curious
I’ve been really enjoying some this song in particular. Kinda burnt out from most kpop (excluding of course alot of the great groups) but this is one of those songs that I find reeeeally good! Been enjoying it alot!
Was randomly listening to these two tracks this morning, earlier more late 2000s and early 2010 tracks i believe. B1A4 is by definition the most underrated kpop group of all time, not because they are super awesome and unknown but because they legit had some great tracks here and there and were niche within niche groups, the unknown within the unknown lol. It cannot be understated how uncommon it was to ever hear about them.
Block B was another interesting group with some decent tracks, this one was pretty dang great
I don’t know if it’s just nostalgia but it felt like there were some magical songs going on during those times. I’m sure ill look back at these dates in the same way however in the future haha.
FUCKING SHOUTOUT TO @M0N for this one. I wasn’t feeling the album before and I still haven’t given it another listen but this song came up in random while I burned in the new tube and from 5 feet away I was vibing. PHENOMENAL song. Love it
