To those interested, looks like Violectric is going to reissue the V281. Here’s what’s known so far:
“The internal circuitry will be exactly the same as the original V281 with only one upgrade, better quality relays. The original relays used were noisy and problematic. So they will be using Reed relays the same ones used in the newer Violectric models.
The case will be the exact same size with smooth anodized aluminum in black. There will be a new style small aluminum remote. There will be no internal DAC option.
Every unit will be black with the relay volume and new style small aluminum remote.”
Also, I don’t think the price is out of line, its just under a grand less than the v550 with the same relay volume option. If I was not already amp heavy I’d consider one - Would be nice to have a modernized version of the v281 I think. I miss mine…
From what I can tell it’s talking about the circular groove around the fostex logo on the cup, on this it’s just smooth around it instead, wouldn’t think that’d affect much other than the aesthetic it’s going for.
Thanks @Zaphain I don’t think I would have put that together but going back to look at the cups after reading your reply I get.
I was thinking they did something different around where the pads attach or the plate where the drivers are attached underneath the cups. AKA over thinking it, not seeing the obvious.
Can’t seem to find too much info about this thing, but it does seem interesting to me. No idea when it’s coming, but I’ll be in the lookout to potentially try it.
EDIT: apparently a bunch of new stuff coming from them soon
It looks a little like a 610 with machined cups as it is.
I know I went through all the effort doing a level 3 Lawton mod to my 610 but honestly, It sounded better to me stock. I still have the original pads and chambers and I would reverse it except I’m not sure I can peel the foam off the drivers without damaging or leaving residue. Don’t get me wrong I think that piece is gorgeous and I won’t sell it because I did it early on in my journey and along side of several others that are here in this forum even. So it has a bit of sentimental value to me but, hardly gets any playtime. Or perhaps the TH909s just super spoiled me I love those things…
Perhaps more surprisingly, making its world premiere is an early preview of Voxativ’s first standalone digital source component in the form of a high-end network streamer with DAC done in a very Voxativ way. Lead by Voxativ’s chief electronics engineer, Stefan Noll Dipl.-Ing, this digital source is a complete Voxativ design inclusive of DAC, a strategically isolated analog power supply, and an integral vacuum tube stage derived from the internals of a musical instrument. In addition, the internal network controller is sourced from the very best provider in Germany to deliver easy network integration with the latest digital codec formats and DSP. This decidedly different approach is housed in the same uncompromising aluminum unibody chassis as their award-winning integrated amplifiers. A unique combination of both objective target goals and intense listening sessions has conspired to create a beguiling sound with an expected $20,000 MSRP available in the Fall of 2023.
If anyone gets to hear one of these, I’d be great to get an opinion of it. Not that I’d ever consider a purchase but just to get a sense of the house voicing ethos and what it would bring to a digital source.
Really exciting news to anyone going to CanJam SoCal 2023. There is at least going to be 2 new headphone products there.

2nd, there is a new Open Back flagship coming out from Austrian Audio. A user there said it will be at CanJam SoCal 2023. The headphone is called The Composer. They say it could be around 2500 Euros.
