Industry News, Rumors, & New Releases 🤐

I feel like they gave up on this type of community a while ago. Focused on mainstream with gaming and some studio items. Just my take.

Guess that means that Microsoft will be trying to buy someone next. Unless they already have and I just forgot, lol.

Haven’t heard it but Maxwell seems to be quite the hit

I think he means headphones that are typically used in the hobby. Maxwell is a $300ish wireless gaming headphone.

Yep. Apple owns Beats. Samsung owns AKG. Sony owns Audeze. So, which company is Microsoft going to scoop?

Doubt it will be a big headphone/microphone conglomerate like Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic or Shure, but Senn and Beyer already are pretty big in the gaming space, so that makes sense.

What boutique audio brand that also makes gaming headphones is out there to be snapped? Audio-Technica? Bose?

Logitech makes sense. Its PC peripherals could be rebranded Microsoft, and the company makes a sh*tton of gaming headphones.

New HEDDphone releasing soon.

Redesigned chassis and suspension system. Said to be lighter as well.

Should be good based on Taron’s impression.

There’s a serious head of steam forming over on the SBAF Mjolnir 3 thread. Praises are being sung. Has anyone here gotten it and given it a listen?

@Christof and @Rhodey

Just found @Rhodey’s impressions over on the Headphones.com forum. Doesn’t sound like he was as floored by the amp as some people over at SBAF, but he definitely has nice things to say, albeit in a very level-headed way.

Edit: Don’t know how I missed your post here on the Schiit thread @Rhodey!

I think it’s solid. Especially for the price. Not “omg I must sell it all and only keep this” but it’s good. With the right pairing it’s a nice experience. Nothing screams this is awful. Comes off very analog, shitty description but I tried harder in my mini review/comparison on here, headphones and headfi lol.

@ckhirnigs just try it. It’s not too expensive. Mine was under 1.3k shipped.

Don’t have the Bryston here but I’d say it trades blows from memory. This may be a tad more neutral. Hits fairly hard. Nice and quiet. Great detail retrieval for cost. Layering is solid too. And that’s saying something at this price point. Just don’t get it to drive an HE6 or sus. I have my doubts there.

Would you say it’s near the technical level of the Bliss only different in it’s approach, or is the Bliss clearly a step up overall? I try not to judge solely on price, but the MJ3 would be a really good deal if it approaches the level of a $3500 amp for under $1300.

with the creation of the maxwell which is pretty great in it’s own respectI see this as a great acquisition for sony. potentially bad for the audiophile community potentially good. knowing what sony is like a lot of the technology and patents they like to us is internal. knowing this and some of the patents audeze owns being mainly planar technology Patents Assigned to Audeze LLC - Justia Patents Search there is a lot of potential for the audiophile community. a big percentage of the reason why audeze and a lot of these premium audio brands we are so familiar with is so expensive is due to the manufacturing process being a bit more boutique and slower thus being more expensive. I feel with sony’s ability to mass manufacture and the patents and technology audeze owns as well as the engineers sony owns we could start seeing some really nice planar headphones aimed at gamers but potentially this could expand into the sony audio division and start seeing some nice affordable planar headphones from sony.

That’s much less likely than you might think, since they were bought by SCE, there is surprisingly little cross pollination inside Sony especially outside of Japan.
When I worked for them we’d get to see some of the other Sony groups stuff maybe once a year, and engaging them was politically difficult. Would take someone high up at Audeze making the right internal contacts at Sony’s audio hardware group. Or someone high up inside the PlayStation group being enthusiatic enough about it to make it happen.
I do think this is about enabling volume manufacturing as much as anything else, and Sony could well just leave Audeze alone to play in the Head-Fi space outside of any PlayStation specific commitments, they pretty much just leave most of the companies they buy intact with some oversight.

Are there any reviews for the ican phantom?

I’ve barely used mine since I had Aperio on demo and the Raal VM1a taking up my MJ3 space. I did a quick comparison vs the Tyrs and found the sound signature to be similar but a bit warmer / slower sounding. And all the technicalities were a step or two lower too like stage size, imaging, and detail. But it’s a nice amp in a smaller then bliss form factor.

My main issues with it are how it vibrates and how hot it gets but I knew about that going into it so it’s not a deal breaker.

I think Ifi hit a good spot in the market with this pricing yet, my gut feeling and trying the pro ican was not amazing… I think the presentation and SQ arent completely there yet the product isnt bad a s its very feature rich, and some people like the speed ifi offers

The little feedback on these have been pretty positive. It’s seems HEDD has added a slight bass shelf (v1 rolled off, IMO), and smoothed out the upper-mids/lower-treble. Slightly (2dB) more efficient.

$1999 MSRP

What’s interesting is they don’t mention that its using the anniversary tuning like in the PW’s and SB’s
Edit: Yes it is using the anniversary tuning. I need to slow down and read better…

however; they mention that unlike the regular TH900mk2, the groove on the housings is removed for smooth and flat surface? Are these then more closed? I dunno but it is intriguing and would make them somewhat unique.

These still don’t look like the OG Black Th900mk2s that I remember @M0N sharing a picture of.

I saw these and even though I think they look nice, the lack of that flake/metallic look is a bummer. It’s kind of a hallmark of the TH900’s.

That and that they are $2400, come pretty much barebones and without a stand. Not like the stand is super great but still, I got one with all my others I bought new and for less $.

Not gonna lie - I still looked and thought hmmm… lol
