Industry News, Rumors, & New Releases 🤐

Word, i wonder if it won’t even happen at this point considering that he specified that the Eikon will be discontinued with no direct replacement either. Honestly probably for the best that they don’t make a sub 1k headphone, I would worry that it would be too meh. Interesting too that they ended up pricing it the same as the flagship VC, definitely wonder how it compares

I think it may be my favourite ZMF design

I had recently gotten a Verite Closed and thought that that would be it from ZMF, I wouldn’t have to spend any more money. Damn

I’m surprised that they are discontinuing the Auteur and brining out the classic version. I thought that the Auteur in its current form was well received within the community. Maybe there not enough sales or they only have capacity to make a certain number of different models.

I do think that at least buying new the Aetuer sits in a weird price bracket, most people with that much money probably decide to spend extra and go with either of the verite or if a closed back is needed the Eikon. Now THAT I wonder why they are discontinuing and why they don’t have a replacement yet for it, maybe they just figure if people really want a cheaper closed back Atticus and high end VC? Idk

Yeah plz let us know about the new zmf LOL, do a comparison haha

Also if my memory serves me correctly @Towa you had said you wanted a zmf and would probably buy one when a new flagship comes up, this situation is kinda similar to that :eyes:

if you look at the details for the new Atrium is says is uses a biocellulose driver, and if they’re discontinuing the Eikon which had a biocellulose driver, I wonder if it’s purely a business decision just to make a hp with a larger profit margin?

You see time and time again as the Eikon being the reason people rationalize not buying the VC.

To be honest, I think it’s really stupid.
Especially the Auteur or Aeolous would have been my favourites to start with.
I would have liked to listen to both before buying.
Especially the Auteur would have gone well with the Feliks Euforia.
It’s also a pity that the entry level sector has been neutered and the mid sector restricted and that the focus is more on the high end line.

I understand the business side because of the organisation, which is not easy.
But I think it’s a shame to stop access altogether.
The Auteur in particular has found a large following in the mid-fi sector.
Now there are strong differences between “expensive” and “cheap” in that sense.
I don’t think it was wise, and the shares will probably go up for the Auteur.

I wouldn’t jump to those conclusions yet but it smells a little like that’s what’s going on. We’ll know for sure in a few months.

Eikon/Auteur was probably the least wanted ZMF, had the best used value because of that.
I have to wonder if it’s the same driver?
A lot of things go into cost, so I’m not going to accuse ZMF of gouging. I am interested in hearing it, though I don’t think I’ll buy one.

The fact that it’s priced at the Verite level means that they’ll be some additional moving pieces going on that aren’t public yet. We’ll just have to wait.

And from Head-fi

Ah
On Headfi was a bit clearer again.

Naw different priorities now, I have my endgame duo for headphones . Don’t need another flagship, I’m all in on source upgrades atm.

It looks interesting though, I’d be down to hear one at some point.

That is the limited bubinga. Limited to 40 pieces, but yes the bubinga red is very pretty and can have some figuring in it (though i dont see much on their can’s pics) i think a gold or copper metal would of looked amazing with the red wood. I love it with the end wood and contrast. https://static.tildacdn.com/tild3139-3637-4535-b165-623663613139/image-background-ban.jpg

The standard cherry wood is also pretty and cherry ages to such a rich, warm color. It never gets as red as the above but it develops reds and oranges.

For those interested he uses tru-oil for the gloss version, which imho doesnt get a true high gloss to it unless you use a special secret method but it dies get some good glow.

Here are some pics of a trophy i made for our hockey team to “motivate” people to not be last in points for our seasons.

New cut cherry, tru oil finish:

Here is how it aged:

Tru-oil can also be blended in for repairs and it does seem to thin out and seep into the wood over time (which is good for sound). And if youre feeling spicy you can use a little furniture wax on it. I have used amber tinted butchers to add a tiny bit more depth.

The auteur is temporarily halted as its going to be replaced by the auteur with the new method they have. Whether it will increase in price or stay the same, that I do not know.

I know about half a dozen people who have had hands on so far and every single one seems quite impressed tbh. Fingers crossed this is a technical step up from verite

Why do these things always have to be so huge?
I need a maximum of 2 RJ45 sockets with a clean design inside for 200-300$ and I would be satisfied and hapy with it.
I don’t need a switch with 8 sockets for 1200$ that I would never be able to use at home. something small and fine would be great.
I haven’t seen one yet.
