I think their website is a bit confusing, they talk about Amber 4, everything is still titled Amber 3 but the specs mention digital engine #198 which is new according to me. But exiting stuff, I wonder off course how it compares to Amber 3 but also how it will be priced and if/how Amber 3 prices will drop. The pricelist seems to indicate no change but again, they seem a bit chaotic in their website and communication so who knows.
It depends on what website you are on, since thereās multiple ones being lampi na and eu, with lampi Poland being the actual mfg website, but even then they are slow on updating things
Interestingly enough they mention on one of the sites that the Amber 3 is being discontinues because of sourcing issues. Says a lot about the why and perhaps the reason to start clean slate with a new Amber 4. Iām pretty sure the Amber line is their bread and butter product.
Oh crap. I would totally buy a used Amber 3 if it somehow fell down to half price ($2.5k I believe). But to me, them making a new amber out of necessity sounds like Amber 3 will hold their value.
Fwiw thats not actuaky all that far off of what several on this forum have traded for. A bit off but closer than you may expect. There is one on audiogon for 3300 currently too
They might drop in price, but probably not below where they were before the recent price increase.
Before the price increase they went for mid to high $2K used, I havenāt seen many since, but the ones I have seen have been higher because of the new retail price.
That is my thinking as well although they mention the usual trickle down from improved designs. Anyways, an Amber 3 at 2.5k would suit me very very well.
ES labs is making a MDR-R10 clone (to follow up their ES1a stax omega clone)
PowerPoint Presentation (filesusr.com)
Pretty cool tbh. Sorry for not linking the site but that pdf is all the info I have. @M0N any chance youve heard the ES1a and know how it actualy stacks up against the omega?
EDIT: Looking at reviews it looks like ES1a doesnt even compare too favorably to 009, so not much chance of standing up to omegaā¦
I actually used to own the es1a, really enjoyed it, and I did personally think it stacked up to the stax somewhat favorably, although tonality is going to be hit or miss depending on the person
oh holy hell. Thats a way higher praise than I expected. You think the last luster reviews are pretty largely cause people are just using like SRM-7s and such? TBH I cant find all that much info on the cans in general
Not really sure, Iām guessing tonality has something to do with it, it also likes a cleaner and more forward source, I absolutely wouldnāt pair it with a warmer leaning setup. It more compares with a 007 than 009, but might sit in the middle? It doesnāt really compare with an omega in technical performance from memory, but perhaps in signature
oh! I misunderstood your first post. I thought you meant the omega when you said āstaxā. Yah. that lines up a lot more with what I have been reading. Quite impressive given the price tag but not quite what the marketing leads you to believeā¦
Not audio related, but this might be interesting to some on here, 65% hot swappable switches, nice looking layout for a 65%, bluetooth and wired, case looks to be plastic though the switch plate is steel, so it should have decent heft.
Thereās a new THX amp.
They offer a free pair of Anandas if you buy the DAC as well.
Certainly pretty, but I guess for the price it pretty much has to be.
Still think itās odd at this price point to go for a SS rectifier, I guess one less place to worry about noise.
A closed-back dynamic driver hifiman at $599. Interestingā¦
Well that looksā¦ erā¦ different. I know these things are subjective but to me it looks a bit like they threw it together from parts they had lying around the warehouse.
