While everyone else over on Head-Fi wants to complain about SusUn, Iāll be start on about the important stuff. Like why they are using that stupid headband on the Shang Mini when everything above the XS has a proper suspension strap headband.
Goldensound said he personally talked to Fang Bian at a recent audio show and sat down and begged him to not go with that headband for final release and said he seemed receptive to it but it looks like itās going forward. I think Iāll probably pick a pair up just to see for myself but god that headband is just awful.
Iām also surprised they went with that headband. Like if itās going to be a 1500-2000 headphone (and have the āshangri-laā name), Iād expect them to at least put the Ananda headband on it lol. Even the cheaper āJade IIā has a better headband. And sure they can give a hand-wavey explanation like āoh itās to cut cost to make this the cheapest shangri-la availableā, but idk it just seems like a poor choice for a headphone thatās supposed to be the new entry point into the shangri-la family.
If someone is near costa mesa CA and desperate to hear the unveiled, I hear it made a surprise appearance at t.h.e. show
Yeah you can buy that show unit for MSRP too

Hey guys, i found a good deal on a pair of HE1000se, have any of you heard them on the Quicksilver?
Ive read that these do not require lots of power, so i am guessing there is a good chance it may synergize well with the Quicksilver, similarly to the 1266 and Dianas.
So, reporting back after receiving the HE1000SE, the Quicksilver is an awesome pairing for it, it manages to bring its sound a bit to the more organic side of things without compromising detail retrieval which is to my ears the most impressive trait on these headphones.
Comparing to the OOR though, the Quicksilver lacks a bit of bass control so depending on the music style and mood one may want to go with either one or the other.
Overall i love the sound on the HE1000SE, i purchased it at the same time i did the Tungstens and because of that i thought i would end up re-selling the HE1000SE but that is not happening any time soon
I ended up with a HEkse somewhat unexpectedly, as can be seen above, almost a year ago. I was on the hunt for, and successfully obtained, an OG HE6, coming from a HE500. It was only for some kind soul at HifiMan taking pity on me when the HE6 died after 20 minutes of my first listen that I got a HEkse.
I intended to move the HEkse on fairly quickly as I didnāt think itād grab me as firmly as it did. I had heard the V2 Stealth and liked it, but I didnāt consider it endgame. ABing it with my 500, I still preferred a few things the 500 did. I thought the se was going to be a similar experience, but ABing those two, the HEkse came out as a clear winner to me and it has stuck around ever since.
I have gotten an itch recently to hear other things, Tungsten DS, Sus, LCD5, but, itād take something near perfect to unseat the HEkse for me. And, itās probably my chain I should first look at to see what more I can get out of the headphone first.
This isnāt said enough, so I thought I should add another data point for people considering a HEkse, it can be pretty punchy on the right chain. And this is key for me, as I know it is for others.
Iām running FLAC via a Singxer SU-1 into a Schiit Gungnir MB A2, through to a WA22. A variety of decent cables and selection of vintage tubes that deliver a more fun presentation; the HEkse kicks me in the head pretty good, as good as the HE-500 ever did.
Has anyone had ears on the Jade II yet?
They werenāt great. The Mini Shangs are everything the Jade II wishes it could have been. Sucks that the headband had to die to make it happen.
I saw the price and thought it looked too reasonableā¦
Iām absolutely in love with the Mini Shangs for what itās worth. Tossed some custom pads and a bass shelf on them and theyāre flat out phenomenal.
Anyone ever had ears on the HE-5LE?
This, is a combo. So damn tactile and punchy! Thereās something not quite balanced in the treble that I can hear in the body of cymbals but Iām guessing itās caused by the ZMF pads. I have a few pads on the way to roll. The cable this HE-6 came with is trash. Iāll be sending the can to get 3.5 mm modād so I can use it with nicer cables.
I must post some impressions of the Prelude soon, too. I quite like it.
The latest iteration of my new HE-6. More open grills with Dekoni fenestrated lamb skin Sus pads I lost a little slam swapping the grills but got some of it back with these pads. Treble seems far more natural with these pads as opposed to the ZMF ones it came with.
This will soon be sent off to be 3.5 mm modded. It will arrive back with a half decent cable, too! Then back to pad rolling.
Anyone here has tried the Hifiman HE1000SE with a Woo Audio WA8? Looking to use the HEkSE for instrumental electric guitar and electronic music.
Any impressions are helpful!
P.S.: DAC is a LPGT (Lotoo Paw Gold Touch)
@Towa, @SaberPunch, you both have LPGT, what are your experiences with pairing it as a DAC?
