HiFiman high end thread, HE6 / Arya / HE1000 / Susvara / Shangri La

Nice! The boos would probably be even bigger with a larger bass port, same as the HE6.

I have found this on google:

Ive tried this and dont find much of an affect tbh. If you want 1266 bass from sus, just get bliss. That thing was genuinely too slammy with sus for me. AIC doesnt even get close to that level of bass quantity.

Sorry, what is bliss? Anything that is too slammy will interest me bit time! hahaha

Holo Bliss I assume

Oh Holo Audio Bliss, i never heard of this one.

Have you guys ever compared its slam capability to the OORā€™s?

Correct. It should be noted that I am not interested in the amp over all but the slam is real

Oor isnt even close. AIC is probabaly a tier slammier than oor (I think oor, hm1, and V550 all have similar slam on sus) and bliss was a slam revilation over aic. Honestly, it was legit too much and I consider myself at least a bit of a bass head.

I did not find the oor to slam that crazy with the susā€¦ it was enjoyable.
The Bliss (from my very short time with it) definitely goes for the big expansive forceful amp typeā€¦
Last few of months Iā€™ve learned to appreciate the control quality and texture in bass more than slam and quantity. Funny enough that happened with the D8KPLE but applies to how I enjoy the Susvara as well now.

Here Here !

or in this context is it, Hear Hear!

If you ant more bass outta your Sus then itā€™s likely your system and if your are really looking for HE6 or TC levels then well, you got the wrong headphone to begin withā€¦

I do find the ORR very satisfying with Susvara. The Bliss tempts me but not enough to buy unless one came up for sale from within this group, at least for now. Iā€™m one of the odd ones and I enjoy the way the hypsos/oor synergizes in my system and where it fits with my goals.

In my setups the ORR trumps v550 with the Spring3 KTE or YGGY with the Susvara. The V550 will do, but ORR to me, FTW between these 2.

Donā€™t take this as a dig from me on the v550 - I really dig that amp and it is in use in the system I have that is not supporting the Susvara. The v550 did really well with the 1266TC, enough so it convinced me to buy the Susvara in the first place.

I am not so sure, the HE6 has no bass at all for me without the bass port mod, and after the mod is is perfect. That may be the case for the Susvara as well, it is hard to tell without trying myself, i have different expectations than most being a basshead and i am not afraid to use mods and EQ to achieve the sound i love.

OG or se? Og has bass for days but does best on the hifiman velor pads (whatever they are called) ime

I have the HE6se v2, it needs a mod to get to the OG levels

Havenā€™t heard the new ones so canā€™t comment there

So did I but itā€™s also very easy for me to explain why I ended up selling it - I used the Oor with a WA22 as a preamp for a little more tube sound, I sold both of them to cover 1:1 the purchase of the Enleum 23r that gave me all of what I had with those two plus driving speakers (which I thought at the time I would do with it), being solid state and super compact. Damn I miss that amp sometimes lol

I have the HE6se v2 and bass is fine for me. I think Sus has more though, so maybe it is the inherent nature, at least of the HE6se v2 that I have or my particular sample. In any case I do not find it disappointing in the least.

Preferences will be preferences too, and what I look for may not match others. No harm no foul.

does the bliss give the sus more bass than the wa33 or 13r?

I donā€™t think wa33 and 13r are even particularly stand out bass wiseā€¦

I had been Sus-curious for a while (how can you not be if you are in the headphone game) so I finally caved in and bought a Susvara a couple weeks ago. I am not sure there is much new I can say that hasnā€™t been said about them but I figured Iā€™d use this to document my thoughts about them so perhaps I can visit them at a later time to see if anything changes. I am currently driving them with a CFA3 with Studio B pre and with a Prion4 cable.

From everything I had heard about the HiFiman QC, I wasnā€™t really sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the build and general aesthetics, minus the cable and crappy carry bag in the box. Quite comfortable and lightweight to wear as well, only bested by HD800S (or maybe almost similar in comfort for me). I actually quite like the 3.5mm connectors for the cable, make me feel a little comfortable if the cable accidentally got pulled.

I didnā€™t bother plugging them into anything small but Studio B was not a good pairing by itself. I tried with both WE and Elrog Mo and it was quite mediocre. Perhaps if I hadnā€™t heard them with CFA3 before, I might not have felt so strongly but I couldnā€™t unhear it. Iā€™m sure CFA3 is not the be all end all but I like where itā€™s at for now. The next upgrade on my list is AIC-10. But thatā€™s going to be a whileā€¦

I think Susvaras have taught me the meaning of effortlessness when it comes to headphones. Now thatā€™s not necessarily the best thing since they tend to do what they want effortlessly which might not be what a given song needs - which is why I donā€™t think they can be my go to/all-rounder headphones. I emphasized my because my music preferences matter here which tend be quite polarizing (experimental noise metal to jazz/classical) which makes it quite hard for one headphone to cover properly so I donā€™t expect one ring to rule them all but I think Utopia for dynamic and Susvara for planar come as close as it comes. I just need to find the Stellaris equivalent for Susvara.

The most interesting thing was the bass of Susvaras to me. I had expected it to be weak, and it was when I changed to 1266 TC in the middle of a doom metal song. But it was not disappointing, it was layered, refined, detailed, and delicate, kinda like a well made French croissant. But doom metal needs moar bass. However, I also immediately jaw dropped on how bad the mids were on 1266 :frowning: I turned on the filters for TC which improved things but still I longed for Sus mids. The bass made up for some of it but thats lifeā€¦a big fā€™ing compromise.

These are THE best headphones for Radiohead. I listened to like 4 albums last night with the biggest grin. The ethereal nature of music and the headphones just gel together so well. Something similar happened with Joy Division as well. I even love listening to RATM on these. I think the naturalness of the instruments and emotion of the music just help me connect with it so much more that in some ways the headphones just remove themselves from the picture which is how it should be I suppose. In that sense their effortless, not in your face nature (looking at you Utopia) kinda makes sense.

P.S. I often see comparisons of audio to food which makes sense because thatā€™s something everyone can relate to but for some reason for me, the most apt analogy I can draw is with Sachin Tendulkar. That name is probably unfamiliar to most people here but he was one of the few undisputed GOATs of Cricket and if you do know him, then you know this is the highest compliment I can give to Susvaras as someone who grew up in India in the 90s.
